Job description

Spring Footwear Corp. | Spring Step Shoes

About Spring Footwear

Since 1991, Spring Footwear Corp. has been a leading distributor of European comfort footwear, bringing together style, comfort, quality, and value. Our mission is simple:

"To develop successful partnerships by creating and delivering the best quality, value, product, and service every day."

As our Spring Step Shoes retail division continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced and hands-on Retail Field Training & Development Manager to help develop our people, strengthen store performance, and create a consistent customer and operational experience across our retail locations.

About the Role

The Retail Field Training & Development Manager will be a key partner to our Retail Operations team, focused on developing Store Managers, Assistant Managers, and Sales Associates through effective training, coaching, and field support.

This is not a desk-only training position. We are looking for someone who enjoys being in the stores, working alongside teams, identifying opportunities, coaching leaders, and turning company expectations into practical and measurable results.

The role will also play an important part in new store openings, relocations, and store closings, helping ensure teams are properly staffed, trained, merchandised, and operationally ready.

What You'll Do

Training & People Development

  • Develop and deliver effective training programs for Store Managers, Assistant Managers, and Sales Associates.
  • Lead onboarding and training for new retail employees and managers.
  • Create and maintain SOPs, training materials, job aids, checklists, and other resources that support consistent store execution.
  • Provide ongoing training in product knowledge, selling skills, customer experience, and retail operations.
  • Coach Store Managers to become stronger leaders who can effectively train, develop, and motivate their own teams.
  • Identify training and development needs through store visits, performance results, KPIs, observations, and feedback.
  • Help identify and develop high-potential employees for future Store Manager and leadership opportunities.

Sales & Performance Coaching

  • Partner with Retail Operations to improve store sales, productivity, and customer experience.
  • Review store performance and KPIs to identify opportunities for additional training or coaching.
  • Coach teams on selling techniques, product knowledge, client engagement, and the Spring Step Shoes selling experience.
  • Support improvements in key retail metrics including conversion, average transaction value (ATV), units per transaction (UPT), comparable sales, and sales productivity.
  • Work with Store Managers to develop action plans for underperforming locations and follow up on progress.
  • Share successful selling practices and operational best practices across the retail organization.

New Store Openings, Relocations & Closings

  • Lead the training and operational preparation for new Spring Step Shoes store openings.
  • Develop opening timelines and checklists covering staffing, training, inventory, merchandising, systems, cash handling, and operational readiness.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Retail Operations, HR, Merchandising, IT, Marketing, Real Estate, and other departments to keep opening plans on schedule.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and training of new store teams.
  • Provide hands-on field support before, during, and after store openings.
  • Support store relocations and closings, ensuring operational requirements are completed accurately and on time.

Operational Excellence & Field Support

  • Conduct regular store visits to observe operations, coach teams, and reinforce company standards.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve workflows, increase productivity, and strengthen store execution.
  • Support the implementation of new retail systems, technology, policies, and procedures.
  • Help ensure consistent compliance with company SOPs and operational standards.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for Store Managers and retail teams.
  • Communicate field observations, challenges, trends, and recommendations to Retail leadership.
  • Participate in retail projects and company-wide initiatives as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong retail leadership experience, preferably in a multi-store or field-based environment.
  • Experience training, coaching, and developing Store Managers and retail teams.
  • Strong understanding of retail sales performance and KPIs such as conversion, ATV, UPT, comp sales, and labor productivity.
  • Experience supporting new store openings, store transitions, or similar retail projects is highly preferred.
  • Ability to identify performance gaps and translate them into practical coaching and development plans.
  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with both store teams and corporate departments.
  • Self-motivated, accountable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving retail environment.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly to Spring Step Shoes retail locations.
  • A hands-on mindset and genuine passion for developing people and improving performance.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means building stronger Store Managers and associates, creating consistency across our locations, improving sales and customer experience, strengthening operational execution, and developing a pipeline of future retail leaders.

You will have the opportunity to directly influence how our teams learn, sell, lead, and grow as Spring Step Shoes continues to expand its retail presence.

Why Join Spring Footwear?

At Spring Footwear, we believe great retail starts with great people. You'll join an established, growing organization where initiative is valued, ideas are welcomed, and your work can have a visible impact across our stores.

If you are a hands-on retail leader who loves developing people, improving performance, and building strong store teams, we would love to hear from you.

Spring Footwear Corp. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
