Job Description

This role focuses on performing field and laboratory material testing on concrete, asphalt, and soils for commercial construction projects. You will travel to multiple job sites each day, conduct on-site density and quality tests, document results, and return samples to the office lab for further analysis. You will collaborate closely with clients, primarily concrete companies, and work alongside experienced testers while you learn and follow established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site material testing on concrete, asphalt, and soils at commercial construction sites.
  • Perform density and quality tests on concrete and other construction materials according to established standards and procedures.
  • Collect, label, and secure material samples at job sites and transport them back to the office laboratory for further testing and analysis.
  • Accurately record test data, observations, and results in detailed logs and reports for each project.
  • Work closely with clients, primarily concrete companies, to coordinate testing activities and ensure clear communication of testing requirements and outcomes.
  • Travel from site to site daily, following assigned schedules and job priorities.
  • Work alongside other certified material testers to learn and apply company policies, safety practices, and testing procedures.
  • Use and maintain testing equipment and tools in a safe, clean, and functional condition.
  • Follow all safety protocols on construction sites, including the proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Support general construction-related tasks as needed to complete testing and project requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience with material testing, particularly concrete, asphalt, and soil density testing.
  • Certification as a material tester with a Level 1 MCA (Michigan Concrete Association) certificate.
  • Possession of at least one of the following certifications: MDOT Density Technician Certification or ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade 1.
  • Ability to perform on-site testing for asphalt and soil densities.
  • Familiarity with concrete pavement and construction materials testing (CMT).
  • Capability to work in a construction environment and perform general labor tasks related to testing activities.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurately recording test results and maintaining logs.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with clients and coworkers on job sites.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel daily to various job sites.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
