Job description

As a Field Technical Specialist, you will serve as a key field-based technical resource supporting Owens Corning's Roofing business through inspections, contractor engagement, technical support, and field documentation. This role is responsible for conducting post-job walks, evaluating workmanship, providing technical guidance, and delivering consistent field support that helps ensure quality outcomes for contractors and customers.

You will work closely with Field Technical & Quality Assurance, Customer Solutions, Sales, and other cross-functional teams to provide timely, accurate, and technically sound support. Success in this role requires strong roofing expertise, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a highly mobile field environment.

POSITION LOCATION: Remote (National Role; supporting East or West Region)
Travel: Up to or greater than 75%, including travel throughout the U.S. and Canada. Occasional weekend travel may be required.


What You Will Be Doing:
  • Conduct field inspections, post-job walks, and technical evaluations in support of Owens Corning warranty and workmanship programs.
  • Evaluate roofing installation quality, workmanship, ventilation, and other site conditions that may impact roof performance.
  • Document inspection findings accurately and consistently in accordance with company standards and established procedures.
  • Maintain organized records and documentation related to field activities, inspections, and customer interactions.
  • Support escalated claims investigations by gathering field information and performing inspections under the guidance of technical leadership.
  • Apply established safety standards during all field activities, including roof access, ladder use, and jobsite evaluations.
  • Assess jobsite conditions and determine whether inspections can be completed safely and effectively.
  • Serve as a professional representative of Owens Corning while interacting with contractors, homeowners, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support to contractors by answering application and installation-related questions and helping resolve field issues.
  • Respond to customer and contractor inquiries in a timely, professional, and solution-oriented manner.
  • Escalate complex technical, product, quality, or application concerns to the appropriate subject matter experts when necessary.
  • Gather contractor feedback, field observations, and market insights that support ongoing product, process, and service improvements.
  • Identify recurring field issues and communicate trends that may impact product performance, customer experience, or training needs.
  • Support the development and refinement of technical guidance, field communications, documentation, and best practices.
  • Deliver contractor training, hands-on demonstrations, and field-based educational activities using established training materials and standards.
  • Assist with onboarding, peer learning, and knowledge-sharing initiatives as requested.
  • Partner effectively with Field Technical & Quality Assurance, Customer Solutions, Sales, and other internal teams to support business objectives and customer success.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to safely access steep-slope roofs and perform roof inspections and evaluations.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and carry ladders and inspection equipment.
  • Valid U.S. passport and ability to travel throughout the United States and Canada.
  • Ability to travel up to or greater than 75% annually.
  • Experience conducting field inspections, technical evaluations, or preparing field documentation and reports.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic field environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with customers, contractors, and internal partners.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in the steep-slope roofing industry.
  • Direct experience with asphalt shingle installation, roofing applications, and industry best practices.
  • Technical degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, Building Sciences, or a related field.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Experience with low-slope roofing systems, installation practices, and detailing.
  • Experience delivering technical training, contractor education, or hands-on demonstrations.
  • Knowledge of building materials, roofing systems, industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Experience identifying root causes of installation issues and supporting corrective action efforts.
  • Familiarity with warranty inspections, forensic evaluations, or roofing quality assurance processes.
