JOB SUMMARY:
PMD is launching a brand-new Service Department in Victor, NY, and weโre looking for hands-on Field Service Technicians to grow with us.
This role is ideal for someone with mechanical, electrical, machine tool, or automation experience who is looking to continue to develop their careers in advanced automation.
Youโll work alongside experienced Field Service Engineers, Controls Engineers, and Machine Builders while gaining real-world experience with custom automation equipment across a variety of industries.
For the right individual, this role offers a path toward becoming a Field Service Engineer.
WHAT YOUโLL DO:
Youโll support both in-house system builds and customer service activities, helping install, debug, and maintain custom automation systems.
- Assist with installation, startup, and service support at customer sites
- Support machine assembly, debug, and checkout activities in the shop
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems
- Assist with PLC, HMI, robotics, motion, and vision systems
- Support FAT and SAT activities
- Learn and develop hands-on experience with advanced automation technologies
TECHNICAL SCOPE:
You will gain experience working with a wide range of industrial automations technologies and platforms, including
Controls & Automation
ยท PLC/HMI platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens)
ยท Industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)
Robotics & Vision
ยท Industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, ABB, KUKA)
ยท Vision systems (e.g., Cognex, Keyence)
Systems Integration
ยท Electrical troubleshooting, panel systems, and field wiring
ยท Pneumatics and mechanical systems
ยท Integration of peripherals and custom equipment
COMPENSATION:
- $27 โ $37/hr, based on experience
- Overtime opportunities
- 10% pay premium while travelling + per diem)
Requirements:
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, maintenance, machine tools, automation, service, or related technical fields
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Comfortable using basic tools and diagnostic equipment
- Willingness to learn controls, robotics, and related automation systems technologies
- Ability to work independently and as part of team
- Comfortable interacting with customers onsite and remotely as needed
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal
- Willingness to travel (~10% - 30%)
- Preferred Experience
- OEM machine build or field service experience
- Exposure to PLCs, robotics, HMIโs, and/or vision systems
- Maintenance or automation technician background
