Introduction

Wavetronix, the global leader in radar-based vehicle detection technologies, is seeking a Field Service Technician (Networking / IoT) to support engineering development, testing, and validation of connected roadway systems.

These systems consist of roadside and cabinet-based technologies such as radar sensors, cameras, communication devices, power supplies, and surge protection equipment that work together to detect, process, and transmit traffic data. This role focuses on maintaining and supporting internal test sites and development infrastructure where these systems are installed, configured, and evaluated in real-world environments. As part of the engineering team, the primary focus is enabling product development through reliable field systems used to design, validate, and improve new products.

The right individual will have strong technical troubleshooting skills, be comfortable working independently in both field and office environments, and be capable of managing physical systems, networking, and device configuration.

This individual will work closely with engineering and product teams across multiple projects to prioritize and execute field-related work, ensuring that systems used for development and testing remain reliable and effective. This role will travel to clients and intersections with in the region about once a week. When not on travel, this role will be required to be onsite in our Springville office.

Success Outcomes

By the end of the first 6 months:

Diagnose and resolve common hardware, networking, and configuration issues without requiring engineering intervention

Successfully perform field installations including device mounting, cabling, and system configuration

Maintain accurate documentation of site configurations, issues, and changes

Demonstrate the ability to configure and maintain mobile test platforms (test vehicles) used for development and validation

Build strong working relationships with engineering and product teams and prioritize work across multiple projects

By the end of the first year:

Be the primary owner of test site reliability, minimizing downtime and proactively addressing issues before escalation

Significantly reduce the need for engineering teams to engage in field troubleshooting and maintenance activities

Independently plan and execute site maintenance and upgrade efforts based on engineering priorities

Own the readiness, configuration, and effectiveness of mobile test platforms as reliable, repeatable testing environments

Identify recurring field issues and provide clear, actionable feedback to engineering to improve system robustness

Contribute to improving field processes, installation practices, and system validation approaches

Comfortable working independently for extended periods with minimal supervision

Strong mechanical aptitude (drilling, mounting equipment, working with tools)

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Ability to climb ladders and perform pole-mounted installations

Strong organizational and documentation skills

Valid driver's license

Additional Technical Competencies (Preferred)

Experience working in industrial panels, control systems, or telecom environments

Ability to read wiring diagrams and system layouts

Experience supporting IoT or cloud-connected devices

Basic familiarity with Linux or command-line tools

Experience maintaining or configuring mobile or portable test systems

Experience in industries such as telecommunications, industrial controls, security systems, AV systems, or similar technical field environments is strongly preferred

Industry certifications (e.g., networking, cabling, or manufacturer-specific certifications) are a plus but not required

Role-Specific Ownership Areas

Test Site Reliability: Maintain and troubleshoot internal field test systems used for engineering development

Field Installations: Execute installation and commissioning of devices and supporting infrastructure at test locations

Mobile Test Platforms: Own the configuration, setup, and readiness of company vehicles equipped for field testing
