Position: Field Service Engineer II

Department: Service

Primary Objective of Position:

The Field Service Engineer II will independently provide technical services, repairs, and diagnostic support for large industrial AC motors and generators across domestic and international customer sites. This includes field testing of equipment, team leadership, customer relationship management, and advanced troubleshooting, with the potential for international travel.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Field Service Delivery: Independently handle repairs, maintenance, and testing of AC motors and generators. Provide on-site troubleshooting and repair support.
  • Field Testing: Perform advanced field testing, such as insulation resistance testing, surge testing, partial discharge testing, vibration analysis, and dynamic balancing to diagnose motor and generator issues.
  • Customer Engagement: Lead customer interactions, ensuring satisfaction and fostering strong relationships. Provide clear, technical communication regarding findings and recommendations.
  • Leadership: Oversee and guide junior engineers/technicians in the field. Lead small project teams and assist in the planning and execution of complex jobs.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed field reports, technical documentation, and service records. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of all field activities.
  • Sales & Service Proposals: Present and propose service solutions, offer additional products and services, and assist in sales closure.
  • Training: Mentor and train new team members, customers, and service partners.
  • Compliance & Safety: Follow all safety procedures, complete required certifications, and maintain safety documentation.
  • Travel: Be prepared for 100% travel, with the possibility of 50% international travel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Education & Experience: BS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience, and 35 years in the field service of AC rotating equipment.
  • Skills: Proficient in the use of electrical test equipment, diagnostic tools, and service procedures. Strong understanding of power generation systems.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead a small team of engineers and technicians in the field.
  • Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 45 pounds, climb ladders, use fall protection, and travel extensively.
  • Software: Experience with business applications such as SAP, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Travel: Must possess a valid passport and ability to travel internationally.
  • Random Drug Testing: Must successfully comply with random drug testing requirements.
  • Background Check: Must successfully pass a background check.

Salary Range:

$80,000 - $90,000
