General Superintendent - Construction
Position Overview
The General Superintendent is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of the branch's landscape construction field operations. This position oversees the branch workforce, including recruiting, hiring, training, employee development, and performance management. The General Superintendent also provides direction to field leadership and ensures projects are executed safely, efficiently, profitably, and according to customer and contract expectations.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the branch's field workforce by recruiting, hiring, training, developing, and evaluating employees.
  • Adhere to project budgets, including planning, scheduling, and monitoring financial performance.
  • Direct the execution of landscape construction projects to ensure work is completed according to established plans, contract requirements, project schedules, and project budget expectations.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to Superintendents, Foremen, and field crews to improve productivity, workmanship, and execution of landscape construction services.
  • Review field operations through regular job site visits and inspections, identifying potential challenges and taking action to resolve issues.
  • Monitor project labor and subcontractor performance to ensure manpower and labor costs remain consistent with established budgets.
  • Oversee the daily deployment of labor, crews, vehicles, equipment, tools, and other resources to support project requirements.
  • Ensure Foremen and Superintendents maintain complete and accurate daily and weekly activity records and production documentation.
  • Monitor the availability, utilization, condition, storage, and maintenance of branch equipment / fleet and other construction resources.
  • Review completed and ongoing work to verify compliance with plans, specifications, drawings, contract requirements, budget, and schedule.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with clients, property owners, architects, general contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders while representing the Company professionally.
  • Coordinate the movement, delivery, storage, operation, and maintenance of tools and fleet/equipment needed for field operations.
  • Maintain a safe and efficient operating environment throughout the branch and reinforce established safety expectations in the field.
  • Communicate Company objectives, priorities, and expectations to managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field employees.
  • Build a high-performing team environment that emphasizes accountability, teamwork, and achieving results.
  • Lead by example and consistently demonstrate strong ethics, integrity, professionalism, and commitment to the Company culture, with particular emphasis on safety, quality, and customer service.

Requirements
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience leading field operations, landscape construction operations, design-build operations, or general construction operations.
  • 10+ years of experience working for a general contractor or specialty contractor, with extensive knowledge of labor management, workforce planning, and production.
  • 5+ years of experience overseeing large construction equipment, including crane operations and management.
  • Extensive local experience in construction and field operations.

Physical Requirements
  • Regular use of computers and standard office equipment, including laptops, mobile phones, printers, and copiers.
  • Ability to perform essential physical activities associated with field operations, including walking, standing, and kneeling.

Working Conditions
  • This position operates in both an office environment and outdoors at active landscape construction sites. Regular field presence is required for site walkthroughs, inspections, and supervision of construction activities.
