GIS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
CITY OF WORCESTER
The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of GIS Support Technician for the Water Operations within the Department of Public Works. Under the direction of the Senior GIS Analyst, the GIS Support Technician is responsible for editing Water and Sewer data within a versioned geodatabase environment using Esri ArcGIS Pro software for the Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Department of Public Works (DPW). This position will work closely with the Senior GIS Analyst and the Department of Innovation and Technology. The GIS Support Technician will generate maps and reports using ArcGIS PRO upon request, analyze georeferenced plans and review and edit data relevant to the Water Operations Division and Sewer Operations Division.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
  • Update and maintain water and sewer data in the GIS system using ArcGIS Pro
  • Record, review and edit data from a variety of sources such as Field data, CAD Data, As-Built Data and tabular data
  • Analyze georeferenced plans and digitize data for inclusion into the various Feature Classes within the GIS
  • Generate maps and reports using ArcGIS Pro upon request from the public and other City Departments
  • Assist in training other assigned personnel to edit water, sewer and other DPW related data as well as Map Generation and Analysis using ArcGIS Pro
  • Occasionally perform other duties for the GIS functions and programs of the Department of Innovation and Technology and DPW
  • Download, convert and upload GIS data to internal and external sources
  • Assist in updating field collection records for water distribution system data to the Asset Management software and Central Square EAM
  • Assist in developing and editing data collection forms in Central Square EAM
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Working knowledge of GIS hardware including plotters and scanners
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products including Access and Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Ability to follow both oral and written instructions
  • Proficient professional skills with ESRI's ArcGIS PRO
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with interact collaboratively with other department personnel
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions
  • Ability to think critically and solve problems
  • Ability to conduct research and to prepare detailed and accurate reports
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment, complete assignments in a detailed, timely and organized manner
  • Excellent data processing skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills, strong math skills
  • Ability to use digital documents, filing systems and maintain accurate records
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Regular on-site attendance is required

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems, geography, engineering, computer sciences or related field OR ;
    • Any equivalent combination of education, training and three (3) years of relevant experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be considered in lieu of above requirement
  • One (1) year of experience with ESRI ArcGIS Pro 3.x software, preferably in a Microsoft Windows 10 environment
  • Experience with GIS hardware, including plotters and scanners
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience performing data quality assurance and quality control
  • Experience with GPS data collection hardware

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in geographic information systems, geography, or related field
  • Two (2) years of experience with ArcGIS Pro in a municipal or public utility environment (water/wastewater systems)
  • Three (3) years of experience with ESRI ArcGIS PRO software, preferably in a Microsoft Windows 10 environment

SALARY RANGE: $31.40 - $38.27 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
