The Outside Sales & Design Consultant is a highly skilled salesperson with a proven track record of results and provides exceptional service in premium custom designs and organizational solutions for the whole home. This role designs and sells premium custom spaces to customers in their homes by appointment. This position manages and coordinates all phases of customer projects from in-home consultation, design, installation, and organizing to provide a seamless customer experience. This role is also responsible for building repeat clientele, receiving customer referrals, and creating their own leads in addition to leads provided by TCS. This role serves as part of a Custom Space Outside Sales and Design team for their local market and is a full-time exempt position offering a competitive base salary complemented by a ramp-up period and a lucrative monthly bonus incentive tied directly to sales performance.

Responsibilities
  • Consistently meets or exceeds personal sales goals, lead to sold conversion and positive customer net promotor surveys
  • Inspires, designs, and confidently sells complete, functional, and aesthetically appealing solutions for all areas of a home
  • Ability to establish trust, rapport and understand customer needs to design and present projects and customized plans in a clear and professional manner
  • Accountable for managing and maintaining multiple, simultaneous customer projects with a high level of detail, accuracy, timely follow-up with consistent and concise communication to customers and others
  • Develops clientele and new leads through ongoing customer relationships, networking, referrals, leads generated within and outside the store
  • Builds relationships within the local community by connecting with interior designers, home builders, realtors, and other industry professionals to support business growth
  • Collaborates, partners and maintains consistent communication with key stakeholders, including customers, CDT, Installation, Stores, and Corporate to seamlessly complete projects from inquiry to installation
  • Remains current and adheres with The Container Store training, certification, selling, product knowledge, promotions, processes, and philosophies when interacting with customers, support center, store employees and installation
  • Proficiently and consistently uses company tools and email to effectively manage all aspects of customer relationship from consultation to installation
  • Provides consistent feedback and observations to Store Leadership, Outside Sales Market Manager, on sales, service and process areas of opportunity and celebration
  • Arrives promptly to all scheduled appointments and work assignments, and attends installations as needed to ensure a positive customer experience and identify referral opportunities
  • Maintains discretion related to all confidential/sensitive company and customer information

Experience and Skills Required
  • College degree preferred
  • 2-5 years of outside sales experience preferred; experience with custom spaces or custom closets a plus
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales goals with a strong drive for continual success
  • Self-starter who is organized, creative, solutions-oriented, and able to manage time, appointments, and projects efficiently
  • Knowledge of design principles and trends in custom spaces, interior design, fashion, and retail industries
  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to connect with local interior designers, realtors, home builders, and other community partners
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer experiences and closing projects through a consultative, customer-centered approach
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing
  • Flexible and positive attitude, with the ability to prioritize high-value tasks and adapt quickly to shifting priorities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; Salesforce; design tools; and Windows-based systems, with strong overall technical skills
  • Reliable transportation for customer appointments within a travel radius of up to 100 miles; must maintain valid automobile insurance and meet applicable state inspection standards
  • Ability to work outside the store in accordance with the Company's Telecommuting Policy
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and additional hours as needed to meet customer and business demands
  • Ability to work within and exemplify The Container Store brand which we describe as fun, authentic, and team-focused
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
