Job description

CTB Fiber Optic Services, Inc. is a leader in single-source solutions for engineering, design, emergency restoration services and fiber implementation. We specialize in fiber optic splicing and testing services with all our work being guaranteed 110%. We ensure this guarantee by having a team of dedicated people who perform their work with these goals in mind: “Best Quality Workmanship for Customer Satisfaction”. We can perform our services in new or existing, aerial or underground builds, as well as in POPS, remote sites, OCEF cabinets, transmission equipment, Fiber Management Systems, within any rack equipment. We have the experience and ability in building many types of enclosures to include 3M, Coyote, Raychem, Fiberdome, Ditel, Windsor, ACT, among many others.

Overview:

Skilled in fiber optic splicing with an understanding in engineering and splicing drawings, the fiber splicer will perform tasks associated with the construction/upgrade of fiber systems. They will be responsible for terminating, splicing, bonding/grounding, documenting, and testing fiber optic cables within the systems networks and their related equipment resulting in maximum operating efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs splicing of fiber optic cables, both fusion, mass fusion and mechanical, to include terminating various types of connectors.
  • Constructs proper splicing in fiber enclosures and fiber termination panels to include grounding, bonding, isolation, storage and sealing in both aerial and underground applications.
  • Plans and installs fiber distribution panels, relay racks or cabinets with all associated hardware and electronics in a head end or OTN site.
  • Executes large fiber count ring cuts/hot cuts during scheduled maintenance windows with minimum downtime to the network or customer services.
  • Performs fiber audits to identify the physical characteristics of existing fiber plant from fiber matings, terminations, colors to splices and network elements while documenting and updating records.
  • Performs testing utilizing OTDR’s, Power Meter/Light Sources, OLTS and VFLs; interprets and analyzes data; identifies and troubleshoots problems.
  • Reads, creates, and maintains accurate splicing schematics, records, and diagrams.
  • Performs aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber, installing fiber storage (snowshoes), completing pole transfers, and performing necessary clean-up work.
  • Performs underground construction activities, including but not limited to, pulling cable/fiber through conduits, digging up and repairing damaged conduit and underground vaults or pedestals.
  • Pulls various types of cables, including, but not limited to fiber, coax, and copper in conduit.
  • Performs traffic control flagging duties for roads and highways as needed.
  • Ensures company assets are properly and continuously maintained in excellent operating condition while secured in a safe manner.
  • Accurately completes progress forms, daily activity reports and all other documentation pertaining to work assignments.
  • Surveys jobs sites while considering all safety measures to ensure a safe working environment for associates, general public and property.
  • Oversees projects and delegates responsibilities to ensure safety, quality and productivity targets are met.
  • Responsible for mentoring, training, directing and supervising associates while on job sites.
  • Works closely with the Supervisor to plan, organize, coordinate and schedule projects.

Qualifications

  • At least 3-years of experience installing, maintaining/repairing, and testing fiber optic networks
  • Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Work indoors and outdoors as needed
  • Able to be on call for emergencies involving damaged cable
  • Organized with a strong attention to detail
