Fiber Technician II - Aerial Construction
Job Summary:
The Fiber Technician II (Aerial Construction) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and relocation of aerial fiber optic cable systems. This role is strictly focused on aerial fiber construction activities and does not include splicing or enclosure work. The Fiber Tech II is expected to work independently or as part of a crew to complete aerial builds safely, efficiently, and in accordance with construction standards, safety regulations, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, maintain, transfer, and remove aerial fiber optic cable on utility poles and related structures
  • Perform strand placement, lashing, over-lashing, cable transfers, and pole-to-pole construction
  • Install and secure aerial fiber hardware, including strand, anchors, clamps, and related attachments
  • Ensure proper cable sag, clearance, and alignment in compliance with NESC and project specifications
  • Read and interpret construction prints, maps, and aerial plant documentation
  • Identify construction-related issues such as clearance violations, damaged cable, or improper attachments
  • Safely operate bucket trucks, lashers, tensioners, and other aerial construction tools and equipment
  • Coordinate work with crew members, supervisors, traffic control, and other utilities as required
  • Perform routine inspections of aerial plants and report deficiencies or safety concerns
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, redlines, and material usage documentation
  • Follow all OSHA regulations, NESC standards, and company safety policies
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in aerial fiber optic construction
  • Demonstrated experience with strand and lash aerial construction methods
  • Ability to climb poles and work at heights in varying weather conditions
  • Strong knowledge of aerial fiber construction practices, materials, and hardware
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and aerial network documentation
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Willingness to work occasional nights, weekends, and overtime as required by project schedules
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience operating bucket trucks and aerial lifts
