Job description

LINX is hiring Fiber Technicians for its travel-based team that deploys to enterprise, hyperscale, and hyperscale data center builds across the country. This is a 100% travel role. You will work project to project across the country, splicing, testing, and installing fiber infrastructure alongside experienced technicians who will train you on ribbon and single fiber fusion splicing, inspection scopes, and Visual Fault Locators.

Pay: $30.00 to $40.00/hour

Where This Role Fits at LINX

The Fiber Team is a parallel specialist track within LINX’s low voltage field structure. It sits alongside, not on top of, the standard Technician through Superintendent ladder. Every role on the Fiber Team specializes in fiber splicing.

What You'll Be Doing

Fiber Fundamentals and Installation

  • Identify fiber optic color codes, ribbon numbering, and cable types including ribbon, loose tube, armored, distribution, and micro cable
  • Handle fiber optic cable while maintaining bend radius and cable integrity
  • Install fiber raceway, basket tray, ladder rack, Unistrut, and cable supports
  • Assist with fiber termination, panel installation, and splice enclosure installation
  • Label cables, panels, and splice trays accurately

Cable Preparation, Splicing, and Testing

  • Prepare fiber cables, closures, and enclosures for splicing, including ribbon separation and loose tube access
  • Perform ribbon and single fiber fusion splicing under the direction of experienced technicians
  • Clean and prepare fibers for splicing using proper fiber preparation hand tools
  • Use inspection scopes and Visual Fault Locators to verify splice quality
  • Assist with fiber testing, basic troubleshooting, and restoration activities under supervision

Documentation

  • Complete daily paperwork and production reports accurately for each project site
  • Document splice results, test data, and as built information
  • Maintain accurate labeling and organization of fiber infrastructure records

Safety and Professionalism

  • Follow company safety policies, client site procedures, and direction from crew leadership at every project location
  • Maintain accountability for company tools, materials, and equipment across multiple job sites
  • Keep work areas organized and properly dispose of fiber shards and jobsite waste
  • Represent LINX professionally at every customer site nationwide, including sites with strict client access and conduct standards

Minimum Requirements

Required

  • 1-2+ years experience with telecommunications, structured cabling, electrical, or low-voltage commercial construction.
  • 6 months fiber splicing experience
  • Familiarity with fiber optic cable types and color codes.
  • Exposure to fiber optic testing utilizing OTDR’s.
  • 1+ year experience working in commercial facilities or data centers.
  • 1+ year experience with cable tray, ladder rack, raceway, Unistrut, or other cable support systems.
  • 1+ year experience using basic fiber optic hand and preparation tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel nationally on a continuous basis
  • Valid driver's license and current auto insurance
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a traveling field crew, including with crew members and leadership you have not worked with before

Preferred

  • Experience working in hyperscale data centers
  • High density ribbon fiber splicing experience of 864 strand or higher
  • Prior hyperscale or enterprise ISP fiber deployment experience

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Rate: $30.00 to $40.00/hour
