Fiber Optic Splicer Trainee

Buckley Cable Construction is looking for motivated individuals who want to build a career in the telecommunications industry as a Fiber Optic Splicer.

No previous fiber splicing experience is required. We are looking for dependable, hardworking candidates with a good attitude and a willingness to learn. Buckley will provide hands-on training to teach you the skills needed to become a professional fiber optic splicer.

This is an opportunity to learn a skilled trade with a clear path for advancement and increased earning potential as your abilities grow.

What You Will Learn

  • Fiber optic cable preparation

  • Fusion splicing of fiber optic cable

  • Fiber identification and organization

  • Splice case and enclosure preparation

  • Reading fiber maps, prints, and splice documents

  • Proper use and care of fiber splicing equipment

  • Fiber testing and troubleshooting

  • OTDR and power meter testing

  • Outside plant (OSP) fiber construction practices

  • Jobsite and equipment safety

  • How to complete quality fiber work efficiently and independently

Responsibilities

As a Fiber Optic Splicer Trainee, you will work alongside experienced employees while learning the trade. Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist experienced fiber splicers with daily work

  • Prepare fiber optic cables and splice enclosures

  • Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and materials

  • Learn proper fusion splicing techniques

  • Follow company safety procedures and customer requirements

  • Keep work areas and company vehicles clean and organized

  • Work outdoors and in various weather conditions

  • Travel to jobsites as required

  • Work overtime when projects require it

  • Progress toward performing fiber splicing and testing independently

Mechanical, electrical, construction, automotive, utility, low-voltage, or other hands-on experience is a plus but not required.


Pay & Career Growth

Starting pay: $25.00/hour

This is not intended to be a dead-end entry-level position. Our goal is to train employees who want to develop into skilled fiber optic splicers.

Employees will have opportunities for increased compensation as they demonstrate skills such as:


Trainee → Cable Prep → Basic Splicing → Independent Splicing → Testing & Troubleshooting → Experienced Fiber Splicer → Lead Splicer
