Job description

Position Summary

We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused FTTH (Fiber-to-the-Home) Drop Technician to join our telecommunications team. The FTTH Drop Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic drop connections between the distribution network and customer premises. The ideal candidate will have experience in fiber installation, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently in outdoor environments.


Key Responsibilities

· Install underground fiber optic drop cables from network access points to residential and commercial customer locations.

· Perform fiber splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting as required.

· Conduct site surveys and determine the most efficient and safe installation path.

· Install and secure drop cables using industry-standard methods and equipment.

· Complete fiber testing using power meters, visual fault locators, and other testing equipment.

· Troubleshoot service issues and perform repairs to restore customer connectivity.

· Ensure all work complies with company standards, customer requirements, and local regulations.

· Operate company vehicles and other field equipment safely.

· Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, and service activities using company software and mobile applications.

· Communicate professionally with customers regarding installation procedures, service expectations, and troubleshooting efforts.

· Participate in emergency restoration activities and on-call rotations as required.


Work Environment

This position involves outdoor fieldwork, including working in residential neighborhoods, commercial properties, utility easements, and construction environments. Candidates must be comfortable working in varying weather conditions and adhering to all safety procedures.


Qualifications

Required

  High school diploma or GED.

Minimum 1 year of experience in telecommunications, fiber optics, cable installation, or related field.

Knowledge of FTTH network architecture and fiber optic installation practices.

Experience with fiber testing equipment, including OTDRs and power meters.

Ability to read construction prints, utility maps, and network diagrams.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.


Preferred Qualifications

Fiber optic certification (FOA, CFOT, or equivalent).

Experience with aerial and underground construction methods.

Knowledge of utility locating practices.

Experience operating bucket trucks, trenching equipment, or directional boring equipment.

OSHA 10/30 certification.

CDL license (preferred but not required).

Knowledge with GO 128.

Experience in Jetting and Hexatronic preffered but not required.
