Job description

POSITION: Family Worker

REPORTS TO: Family Service Coordinator

COMPANY: Lutheran Social Services of New York

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time

EXEMPT/NONEXEMPT: Salaried Non-Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Family worker supports family services and family engagement activities under the guidance of the Family Service Coordinator. The Family Worker is responsible for the recruitment, eligibility determination and enrollment of families into FCC. The Family Worker tracks the placement and discharge of children and ensures that program census is maintained. The Family Worker is responsible for completing, in partnership with families, family assessments including but not limited to Family Strengths Assessments, Nutrition assessments and Child Profiles.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:

Supports the mission, vision and philosophy of Lutheran Social Services of NY (LSSNY). Complies willingly with all organizational policies and procedures.
Supports all functions that attain and maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory agencies.
Exhibits effective communication skills.
Provides for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.


Position Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Maintains a caseload of ~15 FCC providers
Assists families with eligibility determination and enrollment. Ensures all required documents are completed and filed in program folders.
Conduct recruitment activities to ensure program maintain budgeted enrollment
Tracks children's attendance and follows up with families on absences
Follows up on all overdue medicals, works with parents to ensure submission. Ensures children's required health and screening records are accurate and current, in accordance with DOE and DOHMH regulations.
Collaborates with community agencies to identify resources for parents.
With other FCC staff, plans and facilitates monthly new parent orientation and parent meetings.
Partners with families to complete Family Strengths Assessments and make referrals as needed to meet identified needs.
Follows up with families on family partnership goals and assists in revising and updating, as appropriate.
Assist in facilitating workshops and other activities for families children and families.
Ensure the timely payment of parents' weekly fees. Collect fees and issue receipts. Follow up with parents with overdue fee payments past two weeks

Other Duties:
Completes other tasks as assigned by Director

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of an Associate Degree in Human Services or related field or Child Development Associate Credential.
Knowledge of Family Child Care preferred
Bilingual in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin), French or other language preferred
Basic competency in Microsoft Office for Windows application is required.
