Steady Night Shift Program

AHN LifeFlight provides regional emergency helicopter and critical care ground transportation services for critically ill and injured patients who need immediate specialized care. LifeFlight is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Regional deployment of LifeFlight bases ensures the most timely response to our patients and referring agencies. Our bases are located at:

LifeFlight 1: Canonsburg Hospital - Canonsburg, Washington County

LifeFlight 2: Clarion Hospital - Clarion, Clarion County

LifeFlight 3: Indiana Regional Medical Center - Indiana, Indiana County

LifeFlight 4: Butler County Airport - Penn Township, Butler County

LifeFlight 5: Rostraver Airport - Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Responsible for rendering professional advanced emergency medical and critical care to ill or injured patients in collaboration with an RN partner and medical control in the transport environment. Provides patient focused care within the protocols, policies, and procedures of LifeFlight. Provides professional emergency care in accordance with Pennsylvania prehospital protocols. Active involvement with Quality Improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides advanced critical care life support and medical care for the population served according to established standards and protocols and PA DOH regulations. (30%)

  • Collaborates within a multidisciplinary team to establish appropriate plan of care to safely transport acutely ill or injured patients from presentation to disposition. (25%)

  • Serves as an ambassador of LifeFlight by demonstrating positive professional appearance, language, and conduct within the AHN core behaviors and standards of conduct. (15%)

  • Provides for safe transport of patients. Monitors and promotes safety of self and others while working in and around the aircraft/emergency vehicles. (10%)

  • Participate in LifeFlight quality assurance activities including chart audits, case reviews, and monthly Team and Safety meetings. Actively participates in LEAN principles/activities. Completes all annual education requirements and training. (5%)

  • Completes required documentation according to departmental and PA state regulatory standards. (5%)

  • Maintains expected state of transport readiness by maintaining medication and supply inventory in the aircraft by completing shift checks and restocking equipment and supplies. Maintains storage of medications within established safety and security controls. (5%)

  • Other duties as assigned (5%)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

  • 5 years full-time paramedic experience at a high demand emergency service

  • At least 1 year of experience in LifeFlight as a Flight Paramedic

  • PA Paramedic license or EMS Compact Privilege to Practice in Pennsylvania at the Paramedic level

  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) OR International Trauma Life Support (ITLS)

Preferred

  • Prior flight experience.

Additional Employment Requirements:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

  • CPR – American Heart Association

  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate

  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) required within 1 year of hire.

  • Flight Paramedic Certification within 18 months of hire
