Job Summary
The Network Engineer ensures the stability, security, and performance of data, voice, video, and wireless network services. This role designs, implements, supports, and maintains LAN/WAN infrastructure across the organization. Responsibilities include installing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing network systems while providing technical support and guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
Install, configure, test, document, and maintain network equipment and systems according to approved standards.
Support network upgrades and expansion projects, including hardware/software deployment and integration testing.
Create and maintain technical documentation, procedures, network diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.
Perform daily administration to ensure network reliability, availability, performance, and continuity.
Strengthen security by identifying vulnerabilities, mitigating cyber threats, and staying current on emerging risks.
Manage firewalls, internet connectivity, and security policies.
Respond to support tickets, diagnose network issues, and implement timely resolutions.
Monitor network performance, analyze data, and recommend improvements to enhance capacity, efficiency, and reliability.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT:
Configure networks to ensure their smooth and reliable operation for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
Under direction of senior engineer, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
Ensure network connectivity of all servers, workstations, telephony equipment, fax machines, and other network appliances.
Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
Monitor and test network performance and provide network performance statistics and reports.
Participate in managing all network security solutions.
ACQUISITION AND DEPLOYMENT:
Design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware
Design, Implement, and support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, and remote-access VPNs Conduct
research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE SUPPORT:
Work with senior engineers to design and deploy company LANs, WANs, and wireless networks, including servers, routers, switches, UPSs, and other hardware
Support firewalls, site-to-site VPNs, and remote-access VPNs Conduct
research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry.
Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
OTHER: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with two years of experience administering complex LAN/WAN environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Industry-related experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator
Professional certification (e.g. CCNP, CCDP)
Solid background in network administration and architecture
In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF)
Familiarity with access control models and network security
Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g. SolarWinds network tools)
Solid understanding of network operating systems (Cisco IOS)
Sharp troubleshooting skills
Ability to work independently
Organizational and mentoring skills
Preferred Experience
Experience designing, implementing, managing and supporting enterprise level IP networks that include support of a heterogeneous distributed desktop computing environment required.
Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation.
Experience with network security principles, and general network management best practices.
Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience.
Application support experience with network monitoring and analysis software.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of core routing and switching design principles, best practices, and related technologies.
Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards, including routers, switches (layer 2/3), firewalls, remote access, DNS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLAN, QoS, DSL, Frame Relay, and Metro Ethernet.
SKILLS
Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
ABILITIES
Experience designing, implementing, managing and supporting enterprise level IP networks that include support of a heterogeneous distributed desktop computing environment required.
Proven experience and success with LAN, WAN, and WLAN design and implementation.
Experience with network security principles, and general network management best practices.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Pay Band: B12
Salary: Minimum $62,300/annually - $79,400/annually
Salary to be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.
