This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an experienced engineer who can drive embedded software development, mentor engineers, and help shape the future direction of software across precision electromechanical systems.

The Job:

As a Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you'll be part of our Stanley Assembly Technologies (SAT) team working as a hybrid employee. This role is responsible for the design, development, integration, debugging, and support of embedded firmware and software solutions for industrial and connected products used in precision threaded fastening and riveting systems. You will serve as a key technical leader within the software team, combining direct technical contribution with leadership in architecture, development practices, integration strategy, and team capability building. This position reports to the Global SAT Software and Electrical Manager. You'll get to:

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware in C and C++ for embedded devices and industrial systems
  • Develop embedded applications using real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Support software development for precision motion and control systems, including applications involving PMSM and BLDC motor control
  • Design and implement low-level device drivers for interfaces such as Serial, CAN, SPI, Ethernet, and related peripherals
  • Develop and maintain software applications and drivers for Embedded Linux environments where applicable
  • Build, configure, and support embedded Linux systems using tools such as Buildroot and Yocto
  • Debug and integrate hardware components with embedded firmware and Linux operating systems
  • Analyze and interpret system-level schematics, board-level schematics, and component datasheets
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues using engineering lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and JTAG debuggers
  • Implement and support communication protocols including CAN, I2C, UART, SPI, TCP, and UDP
  • Support connectivity technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular communications, where applicable
  • Contribute to embedded security and encryption capabilities
  • Support connected product solutions using IoT protocols such as MQTT and OPC UA, where applicable
  • Provide technical leadership in software design, code quality, integration strategy, and development best practices
  • Mentor software engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and collaborative problem-solving
  • Partner closely with validation, electrical engineering, systems, and product teams to ensure robust product performance
  • Support planning, prioritization, and execution of software development activities across projects
  • Drive continuous improvement in software quality, reuse, development efficiency, and platform scalability
  • Follow established software development processes, coding standards, and version control practices using Git

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Significant experience in embedded firmware/software development using C and C++
  • Experience developing software for embedded devices and Embedded Linux platforms
  • Experience developing applications using RTOS
  • Experience developing and debugging low-level device drivers
  • Strong understanding of ARM-based architectures, including Cortex-M3, Cortex-M4, and i.MX platforms
  • Working knowledge of communication interfaces and protocols including CAN, I2C, UART, SPI, Ethernet, TCP, and UDP
  • Experience with embedded development toolchains such as GCC, Keil, CCS, and Microsoft Visual Studio
  • Experience using lab and debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and JTAG debuggers
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical documentation, and datasheets
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software integration issues
  • Working knowledge of Bash and Linux/Unix environments
  • Familiarity with Git and standard source control practices
  • Experience supporting embedded software for industrial, electromechanical, or motion-control-based systems

The Salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $144,900.00
