What are some common challenges FastAPI developers face when integrating third-party services or APIs?

FastAPI Developers often encounter challenges when integrating third-party services, such as handling authentication protocols (like OAuth2), ensuring compatibility between JSON schemas, and managing asynchronous calls to avoid performance bottlenecks. It’s also common to troubleshoot and adapt to inconsistencies in external API documentation or rate limits. Collaborating closely with frontend teams and DevOps professionals helps streamline these integrations, ensuring robust, scalable API solutions.

What is the difference between Fastapi Developer vs Backend Developer?

AspectFastapi DeveloperBackend Developer
Required SkillsPython, Fastapi, REST APIs, async programmingMultiple languages (Python, Java, Node.js), REST/SOAP APIs, databases
Work EnvironmentWeb development, API-focused projects, microservicesBroader software development, server-side logic, database management
Industry UsageTech startups, SaaS, API-driven servicesEnterprise, e-commerce, finance, various industries

Fastapi Developers specialize in building high-performance APIs using Python and Fastapi, often within microservices architectures. Backend Developers have a broader scope, working with multiple languages and technologies to develop server-side applications across various industries. While Fastapi Developers focus on API efficiency, Backend Developers handle comprehensive backend systems.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a FastAPI developer?

To thrive as a FastAPI Developer, you need strong proficiency in Python programming, RESTful API design, and experience with FastAPI, often supported by a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with tools like SQL/NoSQL databases, Docker, and cloud platforms, as well as knowledge of asynchronous programming and API documentation tools like Swagger, is typically required. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication set outstanding FastAPI developers apart. These skills are crucial for building reliable, high-performance APIs that meet modern application demands and facilitate seamless team collaboration.

What is a FastAPI developer?

A FastAPI Developer is a software engineer who specializes in building web applications and APIs using the FastAPI framework, which is a modern, fast (high-performance) web framework for Python. FastAPI Developers are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend services and APIs that are efficient, robust, and scalable. They often work with databases, authentication, and deployment processes, and ensure that the API endpoints adhere to best practices for security and performance. Their work is crucial for enabling smooth communication between front-end applications and backend systems.

Job description

Software Engineer
Location: New York, NY (on-site, 5 days a week)
Compensation: $140,000–$180,000 + equity
Employment: Full-time
Department: Engineering

About Revin

At Revin, we're bringing AI to the built world. Millions of operators across home services, construction, and remodeling have been overlooked by the last wave of technology. We're building the system of intelligence that lets them automate and scale revenue.

Today, over $2.3B in revenue runs on Revin, making us the #1 AI partner for enterprise operators in this market. Our customers include Sears Home Services ($800M), Astara Capital ($700M), Del Air ($150M), Long Home Remodeling ($150M), ImproveIt Remodeling ($100M), Sage Home ($80M), and more.

We've raised $10M from Stellation Capital, 1Sharpe, Gokul Rajaram, Russ Heddleston, Michael Werner, Tandem, Max Branzburg, and Marc Bhargava.

About the Role

We're hiring a Software Engineer to build the production systems behind our AI agents — the agents that handle SMS, voice, and email conversations on behalf of $100M+ home-services operators. When our agent makes a mistake — books outside hours, dispatches to the wrong zip code, promises a service the business doesn't offer — it costs our customers real money. Your job is to help build the systems that prevent that.

This is a high-ownership role. You'll work end-to-end across a Python/FastAPI backend, a Next.js/TypeScript dashboard, and the LangGraph workflows that drive agent behavior. You'll partner directly with product, design, and senior engineers, ship in production, and grow quickly.

What You Will Do

  • Build and evolve LangGraph workflows that handle SMS and voice conversations for enterprise operators

  • Ship features end-to-end across a Python/FastAPI backend and a Next.js/TypeScript dashboard

  • Work in a multi-tenant Supabase/Postgres environment where every query is account-scoped (RLS, JWT-based access)

  • Help build the eval frameworks that catch agent regressions before they reach customers — we treat eval quality as a first-class engineering discipline

  • Integrate with messy real-world CRMs (Salesforce, ServiceTitan, LeadPerfection, AccuLynx) where the data is never clean

  • Partner with the voice team on real-time agent behavior (LiveKit + OpenAI Realtime)

  • Help optimize the omnichannel experience across SMS, voice, and email

Who You Are

  • 2–4 years of full-stack experience shipping production software at a startup, high-velocity SaaS, or AI-driven company

  • Eager to work with LLMs in production — you've built with LLM-powered features and want to go deeper, even if you haven't owned them at scale yet

  • Working proficiency in Python (FastAPI) and TypeScript (Next.js, React Query)

  • Comfortable working in production systems, and eager to learn multi-tenant patterns — RLS, account-scoped queries, JWT-based access

  • Experience debugging APIs and tracing issues across services and data pipelines

  • A continuous learner comfortable operating in ambiguity. You ship, learn, and adapt.

  • Customer-obsessed — you want to be close to the people using what you build

Bonus:

  • LangGraph, LangChain, or other agent frameworks

  • Real-time voice/audio work (LiveKit, Daily.co, Twilio Voice)

  • Observability tooling for LLM systems (Langfuse, LangSmith, Helicone)

Don't Apply If

  • You wait for instructions instead of taking initiative

  • You want a predictable, low-ownership role. We move fast, ship in production, and own outcomes end-to-end. If you're optimizing for predictability, this won't be a fit.

  • You're not excited about applying AI to the built world. There's no playbook here. If you want a well-trodden path, this isn't the role.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Base salary: $140,000–$180,000

  • Equity: Competitive equity package

  • Full-time, on-site in our NYC office, 5 days a week

  • Significant upside through early ownership and career growth

Benefits:

  • Unlimited PTO

  • $0 cost medical

  • 401k matching

  • Lunch and dinner in office

  • Gym membership stipend

  • Clear Travel Pass

  • Tech equipment of your choice

  • Mentorship pairing with a Revin advisor/investor

  • Relocation assistance
