Director of Facilities

Unusual Machines

Orlando, FL

Full-time

Posted 11 days ago

Job description

Unusual Machines is a U.S.-based drone and drone parts company focused on the small and First-Person View (FPV) segments of the drone market. Our brands - Rotor Riot and Fat Shark - are two of the most respected names in FPV and have helped shape the industry through e-commerce, product development, and a deep connection with the pilot community.

We're expanding into enterprise and defense - bringing our obsessive attention to performance, design, and U.S.-based manufacturing into high-stakes environments like search and rescue and military innovation. With several of our products already approved by the Defense Innovation Unit, we're solving procurement issues for customers who demand speed, agility, and compliance.

If you love working at the intersection of community, content, and cutting-edge technology, you'll feel right at home here.

Director of Facilities

You in This Role are an experienced facilities leader who thrives in fast-growth, operationally complex environments and knows how to bring structure, organization, and scalability to rapidly evolving operations. You are equally comfortable leading expansion projects and buildouts as you are walking facilities, solving operational issues in real time, managing vendors, improving preventative maintenance programs, and helping teams stay ahead of growth. You know how to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution, communicate proactively, and operate with urgency in environments where priorities can shift quickly. Most importantly, you are a visible leader and strong coach who can develop people, build scalable processes, and help create the operational backbone needed to support a rapidly growing manufacturing organization.

A Day in the Life

No two days will look exactly the same in this role. One morning may involve walking a manufacturing facility to address operational concerns, reviewing preventative maintenance priorities, and coordinating security vendor updates. The afternoon may involve touring a potential new facility, meeting with contractors on a buildout timeline, troubleshooting parking and occupancy challenges, or partnering with HR and Operations on expansion planning.

You will regularly:

  • Lead facilities operations across multiple Orlando-area locations
  • Coordinate expansions, buildouts, moves, and space planning
  • Manage landlord, broker, contractor, and vendor relationships
  • Improve facilities processes and preventative maintenance programs
  • Oversee physical security systems, access control, visitor management, and emergency preparedness coordination
  • Partner cross-functionally with HR, Operations, Manufacturing, and Finance
  • Coach and develop the Facilities Manager and broader Facilities team
  • Prioritize and resolve reactive operational issues quickly and effectively
  • Help create scalable systems that support continued company growth

This role requires someone who can zoom out strategically while still staying close to day-to-day execution.

What You'll Do

  • Lead all facilities-related operations across corporate, warehouse, manufacturing, and fulfillment locations
  • Oversee facilities expansion projects, renovations, buildouts, and occupancy planning
  • Manage lease coordination activities in partnership with the company's Realtor of record
  • Lead vendor management efforts, including janitorial, maintenance, security, HVAC, electrical, utilities, and construction-related vendors
  • Develop scalable preventative maintenance and facilities management processes
  • Oversee physical security operations, including badge/access systems, visitor management, and facility security coordination
  • Partner with leadership on space planning, parking logistics, and future facilities growth needs
  • Manage facilities budgets, invoice approvals, and vendor negotiations
  • Support emergency preparedness planning and overall facility readiness
  • Partner with HR and Operations on company events, facility logistics, and employee experience initiatives
  • Coordinate move management and new site readiness activities
  • Ensure facilities remain safe, functional, organized, and operationally effective as the company scales
  • Develop and coach the Facilities Manager while helping build long-term team capabilities
  • Help create accountability, communication, and ownership across facilities operations

What You Bring

  • 10+ years of facilities leadership experience in manufacturing, warehouse, logistics, distribution, or fast-growth operational environments
  • Experience leading facilities operations across multiple sites
  • Strong construction, expansion, and buildout coordination experience
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, landlords, and facility-related partnerships
  • Strong understanding of:
    • HVAC systems
    • Electrical systems
    • Warehouse/manufacturing infrastructure
    • Access control/security systems
    • Preventative maintenance programs
    • Fire/life safety systems
  • Experience operating in fast-growth or rapidly changing environments
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • High sense of urgency and operational responsiveness
  • Proven ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to independently prioritize and lead facilities operations with limited direction

Strongly Preferred

  • Manufacturing and warehouse environment experience
  • Security and safety oversight experience
  • Experience supporting rapid expansion and multi-site growth
  • Startup or high-growth company experience
  • Experience scaling facilities infrastructure while processes are still evolving

What You'll Gain

  • The opportunity to help shape the infrastructure of a rapidly scaling manufacturing company
  • A highly visible operational leadership role with meaningful impact
  • The ability to build systems, processes, and facilities strategy from the ground up
  • A fast-paced environment where decisions move quickly and your work directly affects company growth
  • A collaborative leadership team focused on scaling aggressively and building for the future

Compensation & Benefits - $135,000 - $150,000

The People

At Unusual Machines, we are building something ambitious. We move quickly, solve problems in real time, and continue scaling while building infrastructure around us.

The people who succeed here are adaptable, accountable, collaborative, operationally minded, and willing to step in wherever needed to help the organization grow.

We are not looking for someone to simply maintain facilities. We are looking for someone who can help scale them.

One More Thing

Facilities emergencies do not always happen on a schedule, and growth at UMAC is not slowing down anytime soon.

This role requires someone who is energized by solving problems, building systems, supporting teams, and helping create operational stability inside a rapidly evolving environment.

If you enjoy building while flying, creating order from growth, and helping shape the future of a scaling organization, we would love to meet you.

Benefits

  • Equity is included for all exempt positions
  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Benefits
  • 401(k)
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Paid Holidays
  • Daily Catered Lunches
