What does a fashion engineer do?

A Fashion Engineer combines principles of fashion design and engineering to develop innovative clothing, textiles, and wearable technology. They work on fabric selection, garment construction, and integrating smart textiles or sustainable materials. Their role often involves research, technical development, and problem-solving to improve functionality, durability, and efficiency in fashion production. Fashion Engineers collaborate with designers, manufacturers, and technology experts to create cutting-edge apparel solutions.

What are some common projects or challenges a fashion engineer might work on?

Fashion Engineers often work on developing new fabrics, optimizing manufacturing processes, and integrating innovative technologies into apparel design. A typical challenge might involve reducing production costs while maintaining high quality, or designing garments that incorporate sustainable materials and advanced functionality. You'll frequently collaborate with designers, product developers, and manufacturing teams to bring innovative concepts from prototype to mass production. This role requires staying informed about the latest industry trends and materials, as well as adapting to fast-paced changes in consumer preferences and technology. Overcoming these challenges is both intellectually rewarding and essential for maintaining a competitive edge in the fashion industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the fashion engineer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fashion Engineer, you need a strong background in textile science, apparel design, and production engineering, typically supported by a degree in fashion technology or a related engineering field. Familiarity with CAD software, 3D modeling tools, and garment manufacturing systems, as well as relevant certifications like Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing, is highly valuable. Strong project management, creative problem-solving, and effective communication skills help professionals collaborate successfully with designers and production teams. These capabilities are crucial for innovating efficient, quality-driven apparel solutions while meeting industry standards and market demands.

Job description

Circular Economy (CE) manages launch of remanufactured driveline assembly (transmission, transfer case, PTU, drive shafts, half shafts) service parts. The CE engineer identifies, tracks, and approves testing and validation of remanufactured service parts. The CE engineer ensures parts have applicable engineering documents created and corporate-released for compliance, traceability, and ease of future corporate reference. The CE engineer tracks part releases through the multiple departments within CE & Mopar, to ensure parts are placed on shelf in a timely fashion and without hindrances. The ideal candidate understands the product releasing process, including Engineering Change Notice, PPAP/APQP metrics, and Engineering Drawing interpretation. This position requires a team player with excellent interpersonal skills able to work in a dynamic cross-functional team.
Responsibilities:
• Understand engineering aspects of past-model parts, such as design, specifications, and materials, to implement changes without affecting original design intent.

• Interface with material engineering to approve service parts material deviation requests.
• Modify parts service procedures to optimize labor time, reducing warranty cost.
• Create long term storage (LTS) solutions for all-time buy parts.
Requirements:
• Driveline design and release engineering, process engineering or functional test engineering experience is preferred
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or significant engineering experience
• Experience driving several simultaneous projects taking 6 - 9 months thru many implementation requirements.
