Job description

A day in the life

You begin the morning in Sterling, VA by confirming gauges and instruments are within calibration, then move to incoming material checks. By mid-morning you’re programming a CMM in PC-DMIS to run a complex dimensional routine, validating features against tight GD&T callouts. After lunch, you verify a FARO Arm scan in PolyWorks, complete an AS9102-compliant FAI, log results in High QA, and partner with Production and Engineering to resolve a nonconformance. You wrap up by filing inspection records per AS9100/ISO 9001 procedures and leaving your area spotless and safe.

What you’ll do
  • Inspect incoming materials, in‑process parts, and finished goods to customer, engineering, and quality requirements.
  • Perform detailed dimensional inspections using precision tools and metrology equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Apply GD&T to evaluate features and verify tolerances.
  • Create and maintain accurate dimensional reports and required quality documentation.
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI) and complete associated documentation.
  • Program and operate CMMs with PC‑DMIS.
  • Execute inspections with a FARO Arm and analyze data in PolyWorks.
  • Use High QA software for planning, documentation, and reporting.
  • Measure with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, optical devices, and other precision instruments.
  • Perform applicable non‑destructive inspections and tests per established procedures and qualifications.
  • Identify, document, and communicate nonconforming product.
  • Assist in investigations and corrective documentation for quality issues.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Quality to resolve concerns.
  • Verify calibration status of all inspection and measuring equipment prior to use.
  • Maintain complete and accurate inspection records to company and quality system requirements.
  • Follow AS9100 and ISO 9001 procedures, customer requirements, and internal work instructions.
  • Keep the work environment clean, organized, and safe.
  • Support Quality Department initiatives and broader Pro‑Type activities; perform other assigned duties.
What you bring
  • High school diploma or GED required; additional technical or quality education/training preferred.
  • Hands‑on quality inspection experience in precision metal manufacturing.
  • Strong command of GD&T and its practical application.
  • Proven ability to read complex drawings, specs, and tolerance schemes.
  • Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, indicators, and related instruments.
  • CMM proficiency with PC‑DMIS.
  • FARO Arm proficiency with PolyWorks.
  • Experience with High QA or comparable inspection software.
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks or other 3D CAD, including dimensional queries.
  • Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001:2015 preferred.
  • Documented experience performing and recording dimensional inspections.
  • FAI experience (AS9102 preferred).
  • Ability to recognize and properly document nonconforming product.
  • Analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and documentation discipline.
