A Farm Tractor Operator is responsible for driving and operating tractors and other agricultural machinery to prepare fields, plant, maintain, and harvest crops. They may also perform routine maintenance on equipment, follow safety procedures, and work with farm managers to ensure efficient operations. This role requires knowledge of machinery, attention to detail, and the ability to work long hours outdoors in various weather conditions.
Farm Tractor Operators often work outdoors in varying weather conditions, with hours that can extend early mornings, evenings, or weekends, especially during planting and harvest seasons. The work environment is generally rural and may involve working independently or as part of a small agricultural team. Operators need to be prepared for physically demanding tasks and periods of peak activity that require flexibility. However, the role offers the satisfaction of directly contributing to food production and the potential for advancement to lead operator or supervisory positions over time.
Farm Tractor Operators need mechanical aptitude, experience with agricultural equipment, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with GPS-guided systems, basic maintenance tools, and, in some cases, a commercial driver's license (CDL) are important for efficient operation. Attention to detail, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills set outstanding operators apart. These skills ensure safe, productive operation, reduce equipment downtime, and support farm productivity.

JVC/Peterson Farms Inc. is looking for drivers who want to maximize their DOT allotted hours of service. The qualified driver (with Class A CDL license and updated medical certificate) will be required to transport PFI produced freight throughout the United States while staying compliant with DOT regulations. Drivers considered for employment need to have experience with, or at least be open to operating an electronic logging device.
Responsibilities:
•Represent PFI/JVC in a way that is courteous and professional at all times
•Communicate with JVC dispatch regularly
•Perform Daily Vehicle Inspection, on tractor and trailer, to determine safe operating condition prior to departure
•Trailer pre-load; Pre-cool trailer to proper temperature, confirm product count, properly secure product in trailer, verify paperwork is correct before signing
•Operate vehicle in compliance with company rules and all applicable state and federal regulations in accordance with accepted principles of safe driving
•Deliver freight to consignees as required
•Wait patiently for backhaul information/instructions
•Pick up freight as required
•Load and unload freight as required (we compensate drivers for lumping)
•Perform other related work as required
•Report to Transportation Manager and/or Dispatch all moving violations, roadside inspections, and accidents including equipment damage and/or property damage, involving the driver or company equipment
•Properly complete and turn in paperwork in compliance with state and federal regulations for each trip including: (DVIR, logs, signed BOL’s, PFTI trip sheet, receipts)
•Proper use and care of all equipment assigned to him/her for the performance of his/her duties.
•Reports promptly any delays that will affect pick up or delivery appointments.
Education:
•High school graduate or equivalent preferred
Work Experience:
•1-year continuous current driving record
•Verifiable Previous 3-years Driving Employment History
Skills and Knowledge:
•Ability to read, interpret and follow written job instructions
•Ability to operate electronic logging device, or ability to learn
•Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a truck tractor
•Ability to walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, squat, and climb, as necessary, to perform vehicle inspections
•Class A CDL, (Good) Driving Record
