Job Description

Field to Table Staff II works within a small team to assist with the production of hydroponically greenhouse grown crops for our Biltmore culinary teams. Staff works closely with program leadership and Food & Beverage teams to determine needs, yield, and coordinate production time-lines and costs. In addition, the incumbent will provide general assistance and support for leadership, the department, and company as required.

Schedule can vary, but is generally 8:30am - 4:30pm.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Sowing and planting of lettuces, herbs and flowers, and micro greens.
2. Monitor crops for water needs, nutrient deficiencies, pests, diseases, general care needs.
3. Harvest and package crops with discernment for product quality
4. Understand and comply with all Food Safety requirements and guidelines
5. Deliver crops in timely manner and in premium condition.
6. Assist team members, customers, and guests in a courteous and professional manner.
7. Collect monthly water samples and prepare for shipment to lab
8. Accurately enter lab results into Nutrient Calculator Spreadsheet
9. Accurately dose raceways as per NCS recommendations.
10. Inventory nutrients for ordering

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma required. Additional education, training, and/or certification(s) preferred. Must be able to obtain NC pesticide applicator's license.
2. One (1) year of related experience. Equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered. Preferred candidate will have experience in vegetable/fruit production and hydroponic production techniques.
3. Should be able to identify signs of disease and stress in plants
4. Should be able to recognize functionality issues in a variety of hydroponic systems
5. Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook
6. Demonstrated commitment to delivery of world class internal/external guest service.
7. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; able to convey information clearly, concisely. Represents Biltmore professionally with internal/external guests.
8. Excellent planning, time management, and organizational skills; prioritizes work, and can adapt.
9. Proactive, exercises good judgment; troubleshoots and problem solves.

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time.
2. Must be able to repetitively lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
3. Ability to kneel, stoop, bend, and reach overhead and below.
4. Works in greenhouse environment and outdoors in all types of weather with fluctuations in temperature and conditions; exposure to dust, dirt, pollen, chemicals, and particulates.
5. Manual dexterity with the ability to safely operate hand and powered gardening and harvest tools, farm tractor with loader, and standard transmission vehicles.
6. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver's license.
