What does a live in farm hand do?

A typical day for a Live In Farm Hand starts early and involves a variety of physical tasks such as feeding and caring for animals, cleaning stalls, maintaining fences, and operating farm equipment. You'll often work closely with farm owners or other workers to coordinate tasks and respond to seasonal needs, like planting or harvesting. While routines can vary depending on the farm's focus, flexibility is important as duties may shift based on weather or livestock emergencies. Living on-site means you might also be expected to help with urgent needs outside of standard hours, but it also provides a unique opportunity to be deeply involved in farm life and operations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live in farm hand?

To thrive as a Live In Farm Hand, you need hands-on experience with livestock care, crop management, and general farm maintenance, often supplemented by a high school diploma or relevant work background. Familiarity with farm machinery, basic mechanical tools, and possibly certifications in first aid or animal handling are valuable. Dependability, strong work ethic, and effective communication skills help you integrate with the farm team and adapt to changing tasks. These abilities are essential to ensure the smooth running of daily farm operations and the well-being of both animals and crops.

Job description

Company Description

Many Fold Farm is a family owned operation. The farm is located in the beautiful Chattahoochee Hill Country, about 50-minutes west-southwest of Atlanta, GA. We are proud to be a part of a burgeoning agricultural economy within a community that seeks to preserve our rural heritage and act as a model for growth that is an antidote to urban sprawl.
On our farm you'll find a small cadre of farmers, family members, interns, volunteers, and employees all attending to the daily needs of sheep, cows, chickens, hogs, and dogs happily living on pasture as nature intended. We raise our animals on a grass based system and consider ourselves "grassfarmers" who practice management-intensive grazing to ensure healthy pastures and healthy animals. Our sheep and cows convert grass into rich milk that we turn into a variety of farmstead cheeses. We also produce seasonal lamb, fresh eggs and whey-fed pork.
