FANUC Robot Programmer
Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, test, and maintain FANUC robot programs for robotic welding, automated assembly, material handling, and manufacturing applications.
- Program and configure robots using FANUC teach pendants, including motion instructions, position registers, frames, offsets, logic, and recovery routines.
- Support the engineering and integration of turnkey automated manufacturing lines and robotic production systems.
- Configure and optimize Tool Center Point (TCP) settings, user frames, tool frames, payloads, motion parameters, and robot paths.
- Program and optimize MIG/MAG robotic welding applications for fabricated steel components and production assemblies.
- Integrate FANUC robots with PLCs, welding power sources, fixtures, sensors, machine-vision systems, safety devices, and peripheral equipment.
- Support robotic cell commissioning, factory acceptance testing, site installation, startup, production validation, and customer handover.
- Participate in offline programming, simulation, virtual commissioning, and digital factory validation activities.
- Troubleshoot robot faults, collisions, servo alarms, communication errors, I/O issues, weld defects, and production interruptions.
- Optimize robot paths, weld sequences, process parameters, and cell logic to improve cycle time, throughput, repeatability, and equipment utilization.
- Develop and validate robot interfaces with automated assembly stations, conveyors, positioners, vision systems, and production-line controls.
- Perform robot mastering, calibration, backup restoration, software updates, and system recovery procedures.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for robotic, welding, integration, and automation issues.
- Support new product introductions, tooling changes, line modifications, and production-ramp activities.
- Work with engineering teams to review layouts, reach studies, interference zones, tooling concepts, and robot-cell safety requirements.
- Create and maintain robot programs, backups, operating instructions, technical documentation, commissioning records, and change logs.
- Train operators, maintenance technicians, and customer personnel on robot operation, fault recovery, and basic troubleshooting.
- Provide ongoing production support for installed automation systems at customer and manufacturing locations.
- Follow applicable machine safety, risk-assessment, lockout/tagout, and industrial automation standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary and international project teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and production-ready automation solutions.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a FANUC Robot Programmer, Robotics Engineer, Automation Engineer, Robotics Technician, or similar technical professional.
- Hands-on experience programming and troubleshooting FANUC industrial robots in a manufacturing or systems-integration environment.
- Experience with robotic welding systems, automated assembly, material handling, or production-line automation.
- Proficiency with FANUC robot programming concepts, including frames, registers, offsets, motion instructions, background logic, payloads, and program structure.
- Strong experience using a FANUC teach pendant for programming, touch-up, recovery, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of PLC-controlled automation, industrial I/O, interlocks, sensors, safety circuits, and automated production equipment.
- Experience integrating robots with PLCs, welding systems, machine vision, fixtures, positioners, conveyors, and peripheral devices.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, weld symbols, sequence-of-operations documents, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of robot mastering, calibration, collision recovery, backup procedures, and system restoration.
- Understanding of welding parameters, torch orientation, wire feed speed, travel speed, weld sequencing, and workpiece positioning.
- Experience supporting robot-cell installation, startup, commissioning, and production validation.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work effectively with mechanical, electrical, controls, simulation, project, and manufacturing engineering teams.
- Willingness to travel to customer or production sites for installation, commissioning, and technical support.
- Strong communication, documentation, safety, quality, and project-execution skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical diploma, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in robotics, mechatronics, electrical engineering, automation engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with FANUC software such as ROBOGUIDE.
- Experience with offline robot programming, simulation, reach studies, or virtual commissioning.
- Experience integrating FANUC robots with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or other industrial PLC platforms.
- Knowledge of PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, or other industrial communication protocols.
- Experience with machine-vision inspection systems, vision-guided robotics, or automated quality inspection.
- Familiarity with Industry 4.0, production-data connectivity, smart manufacturing, digital twins, or manufacturing execution systems.
- Experience with automotive, commercial vehicle, agriculture, construction equipment, mining, logistics, energy-transition, or other high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with robotic safety standards, risk assessments, safety PLCs, light curtains, scanners, and fenced automation cells.
- Experience working for an automation integrator, machine builder, or turnkey manufacturing-systems provider.
