Job description

Who We Are
Today, more than half of all college students in the U.S. are first-generation-the first in their families to navigate college and forge a career path beyond graduation. But only 21% of first-generation college students graduate within six years. While there are a multitude of programs for first-generation college students, few offer the deep mentoring relationships and skill-building necessary to graduate and launch successful careers. This is where America Needs You (ANY) comes in. After completing our Fellows Program, 96% of ANY Fellows graduate college and go on to earn a median income significantly higher than their peers.
ANY is the national nonprofit connecting first-generation college students with transformative mentorship and intensive career development for economic mobility. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in New York City, ANY expanded to New Jersey in 2012, Illinois in 2015, and our operation continues to grow. In 2021, ANY launched FirstGenU, a flexible digital career development program designed to help first-generation college students across the country launch great careers. Visit americaneedsyou.org to learn more about our programs and their impact.
Who You Are
Due to our growth and expansion in Illinois, ANY is currently seeking an ambitious and organized Career Success Manager to implement our Fellows Program, reporting to the Senior Program Manager. As a Career Success Manager, you will provide career counseling and deliver a series of professional development workshops over the course of two years for a cohort of Fellows (ambitious, first-generation college students) and their Mentor Coaches (accomplished professionals). In addition to delivering workshops, you will be the primary point of contact for Fellows, including supporting their professional development and opportunities. The Career Success Manager will also be accountable for recruiting new students into our program and accountable for building strategic relationships with the assigned college and university contacts in the Chicago market.
The Career Success Manager is based in Chicago with a hybrid work environment, requiring in-person attendance at the office one day of the week, in-person attendance at monthly Saturday workshops, and in-person attendance at other work-related events/meetings, as needed.
Our Ideal Candidate:
  • Is committed to ANY's mission of supporting ambitious, first-generation college students
  • Is excited about building their skills in facilitation, advising, career counseling and event planning
  • Is passionate about data and analytics to improve outcomes for first-generation college students

What You'll Do
  • Provide career and professional development to Fellows to ensure they persist in college and become career ready through their participation in the program.
  • Ensure Fellows meet all programmatic requirements and expectations.
  • Assess Fellows' skills and assist them in understanding various internship and career options.
  • Prepare Fellows for successful internship applications and interviews
  • Facilitate workshops, manage logistics, moderate panels, and facilitate group discussions
  • Recruit new students into our program, to include attending campus and presenting at campus events.
  • Build strong relationships with assigned campuses
  • Analyze Fellow outcomes, program standing, attendance, and program retention.
  • Support Volunteers and Fellow pairs to further the mentoring relationship.
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct recruitment sessions, and other events
  • Interview and evaluate Fellow applicants; track results and support robust external communications.
  • Additional projects and duties as determined by local and national program teams

What You Bring
  • Minimum 2 years of experience, preferably in career counseling or a related field
  • Bachelor's Degree required - all majors and professionals backgrounds are welcome to apply
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, results-driven environment
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong listening and mediation skills, with a high level of empathy
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Desire for continuous improvement and openness to feedback
  • Willingness to work approximately 9 Saturdays per year, plus occasional evenings
  • Proficiency with Canvas or other Learning Management Systems.
  • Experience in public speaking and speaking and presenting to a large audience
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Salesforce proficiency

What We Offer
  • Hybrid flexibility
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • 403(b)
  • PTO
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Collaborative and mission-driven environment

The salary for this position is in the range of $58,000 - $62,000 per year.
