Fall Protection information

What are common challenges faced by Fall Protection Specialists on construction sites, and how are they typically addressed?

Fall Protection Specialists often encounter challenges such as ensuring consistent compliance with safety protocols among diverse crews, adapting fall protection systems to unique or changing site conditions, and identifying potential hazards in evolving work environments. These challenges are typically addressed through frequent on-site training sessions, conducting regular safety audits, close collaboration with site supervisors, and staying up-to-date with OSHA regulations. Open communication and proactive problem-solving are essential for creating a culture where safety is prioritized and everyone feels responsible for fall prevention.

What is fall protection?

Fall protection refers to a set of safety measures, equipment, and procedures designed to prevent workers from falling from heights or to minimize the risk of injury if a fall occurs. It includes the use of guardrails, safety nets, personal fall arrest systems, and proper training to ensure worker safety. Fall protection is essential in industries like construction, maintenance, and warehousing, where employees frequently work at elevated locations. Employers are required by law to provide appropriate fall protection and training to their employees.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fall Protection Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fall Protection Specialist, you need a strong understanding of safety regulations, hazard assessment, and proper use of fall protection equipment, typically supported by OSHA or related safety certifications. Familiarity with safety management systems, inspection tools, and training platforms like OSHA 1910/1926 standards is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are standout soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and the prevention of fall-related incidents.

Job description

Overhead Crane Service Technician

Lift your career to new heights.

Are you a hands-on problem solver who thrives on variety, takes pride in clean work, and gets satisfaction from fixing what others can't? We're looking for an Overhead Crane Service Technician to join our Service team โ€” someone who's as comfortable troubleshooting a complex electrical fault as they are responding to an urgent breakdown call. If you love being out in the field, working with your hands, and being the person customers count on when their operations are down, keep reading.

What You'll Do

You'll be the go-to expert who keeps overhead cranes running safely and reliably for our customers. No two days look the same, one day you're commissioning a new install, the next you're diagnosing a tricky electrical issue or responding to an emergency call.

Specifically, you'll:

  • Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions before they become bigger problems
  • Adjust, repair, or replace defective parts to get equipment back in service
  • Perform crane inspections, repairs, installations, and respond to breakdown calls
  • Inspect hoists, cranes, systems, chain falls, and pullers
  • Order parts and maintain inventory so you've got what you need when you need it
  • Keep clear maintenance reports and documentation
  • Represent us professionally on every customer site and work as part of a tight-knit team
  • Take on other duties as assigned (because that's the nature of service work)

Safety Is Non-Negotiable

We take safety seriously, and so will you. In this role, you'll:

  • Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations and our internal safety policies
  • Wear and properly maintain all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including fall protection like harnesses and lanyards
  • Participate in ongoing safety training and emergency drills
  • Operate all tools, machinery, and vehicles according to training and manufacturer guidelines
  • Report incidents, accidents, near misses, and potential hazards immediately
  • Complete customer site orientations and follow their site-specific safety requirements

What You Bring

Must-haves:

  • Secondary school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a college, CEGEP, vocational, or technical program
  • 3โ€“5 years of relevant hands-on experience
  • A valid driver's license in good standing
  • Strong critical thinking skills and a knack for diagnosing problems methodically
  • Excellent communication skills โ€” verbal and written โ€” and a people-first attitude
  • Willingness to work overtime when the job calls for it

Nice-to-haves (these will make you stand out):

  • Electrical (309A/442A) or Mechanical (433A) license
  • Welding experience

Who You'll Work With

You'll report to the Service Manager and collaborate closely with our Service, Projects, and Supply Chain teams, a group of people who genuinely have each other's backs.

Why This Role?

This isn't a sit-behind-a-desk job. It's a career for people who want to build real skills, work on serious industrial equipment, and see the direct impact of their work every single day.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
