TITLE: Athletic Training Internship (Educational)
CLUB: Seattle Sounders FC
DEPARTMENT: Sounders Medical
REPORTS TO: Head Athletic Trainer
REQUIRED: Enrolled in Master of Science program; eligible for academic credit
SUMMARY

We exist to create special moments like these, where we enrich lives and unify our fans and city through soccer.
Seattle Sounders medical team is offering an educational internship for Spring, Summer and Fall sessions offering a unique experience to strengthen learning and engage skillsets within Athletic Training. Eligible candidates must be current Master's level students who will receive school credit from their university for the entirety of the internship. Start and end dates will be determined with each intern.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Students will gain experience and work alongside our entire medical staff that consists of Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists, Chiropractors, Internal Medicine Doctors, and Orthopedic Surgeons.
  • Time spent supporting both the first team, and MLS Next Pro of the Seattle Sounders.
  • Under the direct supervision of Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapist, or Massage Therapist student intern will aide in the health care of athletes as directed by medical staff.
  • Under supervision from medical staff, students will assist, when asked, in the implementation of treatments, rehabilitation and prevention techniques directed by medical staff.
  • Assist and maintain inventory supplies and clinical equipment.
  • Assist and maintain training room or clinic areas are safe, clean, and organized.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with players, coaches, medical staff, other team personnel staff.
  • Participate in community service/educational programs related to sports medicine.
  • Participate in activities/meetings/programs as directed by medical staff.
  • Willing to comply with OSHA standards.
  • Willing and able to work evenings, weekends, outside events, and home matches as needed.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Athletic Training from CAATE accredited college or university.
  • This is an unpaid internship. Must be able to receive academic credit towards clinical educational requirement.
  • Affiliation agreement must be executed between University and Seattle Sounders prior to start.
  • Able to commit to internship for a minimum of 12 weeks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • A team player who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced work environment.
  • Professional demeaner, punctual and reliable.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Willingness to pitch in to support team tasks.
  • Ability to work under pressure situations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • This position will work in-person from the Sounders FC training facility at the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse in Renton, WA.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must reside within Washington state upon date of hire.
  • Must be able to facilitate own local travel.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to busy athletic facility areas, outside weather conditions and loud noise levels. Must be able to occasionally lift 20+ pounds and be comfortable standing on feet for multiple hours at a time.
