Job description

The Archdiocese of St. Louis strives to teach and share our faith, serve others, and foster unity throughout the St. Louis area. Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Job Summary
The Teacher Aide I supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, faith-centered, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children in the Early Childhood Learning Center. The aide assists with classroom activities, supervision, daily routines, and implementation of educational and Catholic values-based programs.
Job Responsibilities
  • Assist the Lead Teacher with daily classroom instruction and activities.
  • Supervise children during classroom, playground, lunch, rest, and transition times.
  • Help prepare classroom materials, learning centers, and instructional resources.
  • Support children's social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development.
  • Reinforce positive behavior and classroom expectations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
  • Assist with toileting, handwashing, meals, and other personal care needs as appropriate.
  • Participate in faith-based activities, prayer, and religious celebrations consistent with Catholic teachings.
  • Communicate respectfully and professionally with staff, parents, and children.
  • Observe and report student concerns, incidents, or developmental issues to the Lead Teacher or Director.
  • Follow all diocesan, state licensing, and safety regulations.
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or ECLC Director.

Job Requirements
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Coursework or experience in early childhood education preferred.
  • Experience working with young children in a childcare, preschool, or educational setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with young children.
  • Basic understanding of child development and classroom management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
