What is a Fair RN?

A Fair RN (Registered Nurse) is a nursing professional who provides medical care at fairs, festivals, and other public events. Their responsibilities typically include offering first aid, responding to medical emergencies, and ensuring public safety. Fair RNs may work with event organizers, emergency responders, and other healthcare professionals to address injuries, dehydration, or other health concerns. They must be prepared for a variety of medical situations and work in fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fair RN?

To excel as a Fair RN (Registered Nurse working at fairs or event-based medical settings), you need a valid RN license, clinical nursing skills, and the ability to provide acute and emergency care. Familiarity with portable medical kits, first aid supplies, and communication devices is critical for managing on-site incidents efficiently. Strong decision-making, adaptability, and interpersonal skills help in addressing the diverse medical needs at busy or unpredictable events. These skills ensure patient safety and effective care delivery in dynamic, non-traditional environments.

What are the unique challenges of working as a Fair RN and how do I prepare for them?

As a Fair RN, one of the main challenges is responding to a wide variety of medical situations with limited resources, often in unpredictable or crowded environments. You may need to quickly triage minor injuries, respond to sudden medical emergencies, and coordinate with EMS or local healthcare providers. Preparation involves staying up to date with emergency care protocols, being comfortable working autonomously, and knowing how to communicate effectively under pressure. It's also important to be adaptable, as the care environment can change rapidly depending on weather, crowd size, or the type of event. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills will help you deliver quality care and keep event-goers safe.

Job description

Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Location: Beverly Hills, CA (Outpatient Surgical Clinic)

Pay Range: $45.00 - $60.00 / hour

Employment Type: Full-Time, Long-Term Contract

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM (No weekends or on-call)

About the Role

A thriving, insurance-based plastic and reconstructive surgery practice in Beverly Hills is seeking a versatile, dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join an established clinical team. Working directly alongside the lead surgeon and senior lead RN, you will be involved in the full spectrum of patient care rather than restricted to a single department. This role offers a highly collaborative, outpatient environment with predictable, daytime hours and the opportunity to build meaningful, long-term relationships with patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pre-Operative Care: Conduct pre-op consultations, thoroughly review medical histories, deliver patient education, and prepare individuals for clinical and surgical procedures.
  • Intra-Operative Assistance: Directly assist the surgeon during outpatient surgical procedures while maintaining strict sterile field standards and safety protocols.
  • Post-Operative Care: Manage recovery room care, administer post-op follow-ups, deliver clear discharge instructions, and execute ongoing patient care plans.
  • Patient Ownership: Coordinate continuum-of-care operations to ensure a seamless, high-touch experience for every patient from initial consultation to final recovery.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
  • Prior experience in Operating Room (OR), Pre/Post Op or outpatient procedures is required
  • Comprehensive, hands-on surgical training will be provided by the lead RN and surgeon.
  • Highly adaptable, team-oriented mindset with a strong desire to master multiple clinical functions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills focused on patient comfort and advocacy.

Why Join This Team?

  • End-to-End Clinical Experience: Gain complete exposure across Pre-Op, Intra-Op, and Post-Op care rather than being siloed into one department.
  • Paid OR Training: Ideal opportunity for nurses looking to transition into surgical and operating room care with dedicated, expert mentorship.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a stable, Monday through Friday daytime schedule without hospital shift work, weekends, or late-night call rotations.
  • Continuity of Care: Experience higher job satisfaction by building ongoing rapport with patients in a boutique, high-retention clinical setting.

For California Applicants:

We will consider for employment all qualified Applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with the requirements of applicable federal, state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles' Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance (FCIHO), Los Angeles Fair Chance Ordinance for Employers (ULAC), The San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance (FCO) , and the California Fair Chance Act (CFCA).

This position is subject to a background check based on its job duties, which may include patient care, working with vulnerable populations, access to financial and confidential information, driving, working with heavy machinery, or working in a warehouse or laboratory environment.
