Job Title: Shop Hand

Job Description

The core mission of the Shop Hand is to support the fabrication, painting, and assembly of steel building structures in an industrial manufacturing atmosphere. This role requires flexibility and a willingness to learn a range of tasks necessary for each project scope, including material handling, fabrication work, assembly work, painting, and cleaning. The ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions is essential.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the Quality Assurance Program.
• Use hand and power tools to clean and prep steel.
• Handle materials efficiently and safely.
• Read and understand work orders and project task codes.
• Mix and prepare paint coatings following proper procedures.
• Apply paints and coatings according to procedures and manufacturer’s instructions.
• Accurately record quality data on cleaning and coating reports.
• Clean and maintain the factory work areas and bathrooms.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Follow all workplace safety rules and operate tools and equipment safely.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma, general education degree, or vocational degree.
• 2+ years of experience with general trade skills for siding, roofing, metalworking, or assembly.
• Ability to select and operate the proper tools for tasks.
• Skillful operation of non-specialized shop equipment.
• Ability to read a tape measure down to 1/16th inch.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to read blueprints is a plus.
• Experience with sheet metal fabrication, repair, installation, and cutting.
• Skill in painting and fabrication.
• Trade school or light welding experience is advantageous.
• Ability to use a range of hand and power tools.
• Ability to read and understand product labels and follow directions for paints, solvents, and other related products.
• Physical ability to reach, bend, crawl, stoop, and lift up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to be fitted for and use a respirator when required.
• Self-directed and capable of working with little to no supervision.
• Ability to work well with others and participate as a team member.

Work Environment

The work environment can expose you to shop elements such as noise, dust, fumes, and odors within an open-air building. Work collaboratively in a team of 2-3 people.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sedro-Woolley, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
