What is Facebook testing?

Facebook Testing refers to the process of evaluating and verifying Facebook's features, functionalities, and user experience before they are released to the public. This can include manual and automated testing of web and mobile applications to identify bugs, ensure security, and maintain quality standards. Facebook testers may work on new features, updates, or bug fixes to help provide a seamless experience for users. Testing can be performed by internal quality assurance teams, third-party testers, or through beta programs involving external users.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Facebook tester, and why are they important?

To excel as a Facebook Tester, you need a solid understanding of software testing principles, attention to detail, and preferably a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with bug tracking tools like JIRA, test automation frameworks such as Selenium, and knowledge of Facebook's platform APIs are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively help testers identify and report issues efficiently. These skills ensure the delivery of high-quality, user-friendly features that maintain Facebook's reliability and user satisfaction.

What are some typical challenges faced by Facebook testing professionals, and how can they be addressed?

Facebook Testing professionals often encounter challenges such as staying updated with frequent platform changes, ensuring compatibility across multiple devices, and identifying subtle bugs in complex social features. To address these, testers regularly collaborate with developers and product teams, utilize automated testing tools, and take part in continuous learning to keep up with new updates. Building strong communication skills and maintaining a detail-oriented approach are also essential for overcoming these challenges and ensuring a high-quality user experience.

Job description

Forbes is seeking a Senior Editor, Audience who understands how journalism travels on social platforms and how to make it perform. The role is a vital part of the newsroom's audience team and will lead social strategy across Facebook, X and LinkedIn, as well as emerging platforms, ensuring editorial quality while driving readers back to Forbes. This editor will identify the stories that matter most and make sure they reach the right audience. You'll work closely with editors, reporters and design staff to get stories packaged and posted quickly, and help plan rollouts for tentpole projects, from major list launches (Under 30, Billionaires) to investigations, features, breaking news and contributor content. Strong candidates have sharp news judgment, superior writing skills and enthusiasm for figuring out the best ways to convert interest in our stories on social platforms into actual Forbes readers. They should be constantly testing new approaches to reach readers and adjust quickly when platforms change.

They must have a strong command of all available performance data, make clear decisions and explain why something is working (and why it isn't). This is a role for a news obsessive who can move quickly and think creatively in real time. This is an editorial role focused on distribution-not brand marketing or paid social. Success in this role means consistently getting Forbes journalism in front of the right audience-and learning quickly from how it performs.

Preference will be given to candidates based in the NY/NJ Metro area. We are also open to remote candidates based in one of the states that we actively recruit from (see below).

Responsibilities:

  • Run day-to-day social strategy across Facebook, X, LinkedIn and emerging platforms (Bluesky, Threads, WhatsApp), with a focus on driving high-value audience back to Forbes.
  • Manage two audience team members, editing and guiding them on how to package stories for social; oversee scheduling and operations.
  • Own performance reporting and use it to adjust strategy day to day.
  • Approves all key social copy.
  • Manage the publishing schedule across platforms, ensuring timely promotion of editorial, video and commerce content.
  • Work with editors and design to package major stories, list launches and special projects.
  • Jump into breaking news moments with a hands-on, real-time publishing approach.
  • Spot platform trends early and flag opportunities for coverage and packaging.

The ideal candidate:

  • 5+ years of relevant editorial and social media experience.
  • Experience with news stories is a must.
  • Demonstrated people management experience, including coaching, developing, and leading high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success developing social strategies that grow engaged audiences and drive high-value referral traffic.
  • Strong editorial judgment and exceptional copy-editing skills, with experience packaging complex stories for social audiences.
  • Experience across Facebook, LinkedIn & X, with a strong understanding of platform-specific algorithms, evolving features, and best practices for maximizing organic reach and driving community engagement.
  • Experience with social media analytics platforms and tools such as Google Analytics and ability to interpret performance data to inform strategy.
  • Experience with design tools like Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Canva and Figma is preferred.

The annual base salary range for this role is $125,000 - $150,000

Forbes has estimated the compensation range set forth above in good faith.  The compensation range is what we believe we will offer, and ultimately pay, a successful candidate.  In determining this range, we consider the experience, level of education (if applicable to the role), knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be had by a successful candidate as well as the budget and the company's pay rates, generally. This said, we may have to make changes to our compensation estimates and job descriptions from time to time and we expressly reserve the right to do so.  Should we make any such changes, this advertisement will be revised to reflect such revisions.  We encourage you to occasionally re-visit this advertisement to ensure that you are abreast of any changes.
