JOB DESCRIPTION

Aircraft and Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic w/(IA)

The aircraft and powerplant (A&P) mechanic with inspection authority (IA) is a certified generalist who maintains and repairs most parts of an aircraft. Their responsibilities include routine maintenance, inspections, repairs, and detailed record-keeping of all work conducted to meet and/or exceed FAA compliance guidelines for safe operation.

Job Responsibilities: Assist and perform maintenance on piston engine aircraft of the Tuskegee Airmen National Museum including annual inspections, 100 hour inspections and repairs of the 19 flying aircraft of the Museum IAW FAA Regulations. Work in coordination with Museum staff to keep all aircraft airworthy as needed. Keep accurate records IAW FAA Regulations

 

Job Qualifications:

·         FAA Rating as an A&P Mechanic with inspection authority (IA) certification.

·         Five+ years of experience working on piston-engine aircraft, specifically small training aircraft (i.e. Cessna-172), to include routine repairs, unscheduled maintenance, and inspections

·         Experience in teaching/instructing students the basics of aircraft maintenance and repair; willingness to mentor and guide students towards earning certifications and FAA ratings

·         General knowledge of general aviation community

Working Conditions:

 

·         Primarily working in an industrial (hangar) environment

·         Sits and stands for long periods of time (>6 hours daily)

Note:This position can be hired as a 1099/part-time role or a full-time position.
