This position is for an Engineering expert and recognized thought leader. Helps to meet compliance criteria for commercial seating and furniture products as set forth by the Partnership for Safety Plan (PSP). Applies knowledge of science, operating conditions, product innovation in the market, and other factors to recommend changes in product and process design and operation to ensure products comply with FAA / EASA and other regulatory structural requirements. Acts as a FAA and aircraft OEM representative to find product compliance to the applicable structural regulations. The person will work independently in assisting the group in making compliance findings in accordance to TSO and other OEM requirements. Will assist train and guide certification personnel to ensure compliance with requirements.

This is an onsite position based in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

What you will do:

  • Confers with engineers, customers, or others on existing or potential engineering projects or products.

  • Provides technical leadership and trains less experienced engineers to enhance the capabilities of the team.

  • Recommends changes in rules, policies, standards, and regulations to ensure operating conditions, product improvements, and other factors are in compliance with regulations and meeting customer requirements.

  • Analyzes, researches, and develops engineering specifications for product design, or operation of product to include structures compliance to the FAA/EASA structures regulations.

  • Reviews and approves certification documents under the Partnership for Safety Plan (PSP) between the FAA and Collins Aerospace (B/E Aerospace) and delegation authority under aircraft OEMs related to structural requirements of 14CFR 25.561, 562, 785, and 787

  • Develops training material and conducts training of certification engineers on FAA/EASA regulations, OEM requirements, on structural regulations.

  • Provides guidance to employees in the use of FAA/EASA regulations, OEM requirements, etc. when writing similarity reports, test plans, test reports, & conducting structural testing

  • Evaluates and leads implementation of new tools, processes, analytical methods, concepts, and testing that improve certification capabilities and efficiency. Improves total cycle time for the engineering development of products.

  • Attends FAA DER seminars and stays current on FAA/EASA and other international regulatory bodies structural regulations

  • Participates in industry committees, groups, and discussions to help develop new regulations, standards, guidance materials, etc. related to aircraft structural certification and installation.

  • Acts independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.

  • U.S. Person required - Job requires access to ITAR or 600/500-series EAR information or hardware (directly or indirectly) and the company will not seek an export authorization for this role.

  • Must have experience as a structural DER, ODA UM or PSP staff member or experience working under PSP authority.

  • Must have working knowledge of FAA, EASA rules and regulations, policy memos, guidance materials, standards, etc. related to aircraft seat certification and installation with emphasis on aircraft interiors structural requirements.

  • Must have experience of TC, STC, PMA or TSO certification processes.

  • Must have experience of materials and processes commonly used in aircraft interiors design.

The salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
