Job description

Leidos is seeking Lead Cloud Systems Owner to join the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector, supporting the development of next-generation flight service and air traffic systems. This work aligns with the FAA's broader initiative to modernize legacy flight service capabilities, replacing aging infrastructure with scalable, cloud-based platforms designed to improve safety and operational efficiency-particularly in remote and high-dependency aviation environments. These efforts focus on delivering mission-critical, future-ready solutions that provide safety-critical flight services to the pilot community.

Please note, this exciting position is currently unfunded and is in anticipation of future work.

In this position, you will serve as the Cloud System Owner for one or more cloud-hosted environments supporting Agile software development teams and production systems. You will be responsible for provisioning, securing, automating, maintaining, and continuously improving cloud infrastructure that supports mission-critical FAA applications. Working closely with software engineers, systems engineers, cybersecurity personnel, DevSecOps engineers, and Product Owners, you will ensure development, integration, test, and production environments remain reliable, secure, scalable, and compliant throughout the software lifecycle.

This position supports government programs and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust investigation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, administer, and maintain cloud infrastructure supporting development, integration, testing, and production environments.

  • Administer and maintain Kubernetes cluster infrastructure including node groups, upgrades, networking and RBAC.

  • Manage Kubernetes platform-level configurations including ingress controllers, network policies, storage classes and cluster-wide Helm releases.

  • Own and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation, defining approved modules and management deployment state across all environments.

  • Configure and manage AWS cloud services including networking, compute, storage, identity, and security services.

  • Automate system provisioning and configuration management using Ansible or comparable tools.

  • Develop automation scripts using Bash and Python to support infrastructure operations, system health, and compliance tasks.

  • Configure and manage Linux servers, storage, package management, services, and security controls.

  • Implement identity and access management using AWS IAM, RBAC, Active Directory, LDAP, or related technologies.

  • Manage secrets, certificates, encryption keys, and PKI assets using AWS Secrets Manager, AWS KMS, HashiCorp Vault, or similar technologies.

  • Troubleshoot infrastructure, networking, container, and application issues across cloud environments.

  • Monitor platform health, availability, performance, and operational metrics.

  • Participate in Agile ceremonies while supporting development teams through rapid infrastructure delivery.

  • Document system configurations, operational procedures, architecture decisions, and recovery processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 2+ years of experience

  • Experience administering AWS or GCP cloud environments

  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

  • Experience developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation

  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines

  • Linux administration experience

  • Experience with scripting using Bash or Python

  • Knowledge of Git version control

  • Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, and load balancing

  • Experience implementing IAM and security best practices

  • Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust suitability determination

  • US Citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting FAA or DoD systems

  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices

  • Experience supporting highly available cloud environments
