Department Overview

Casey Eye Institute. The OHSU Clinical RN provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RNs care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, practitioner, and knowledge transferor [O'Rourke Model of the Professional Role]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RNs engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. Function/Duties of Position

Casey Eye Operating Room is a 1:1 nursing unit that provides care to ophthalmic patients in the operating room (both peds and adults). Ambulatory setting, Monday-Friday with some call.

  • Small team in a fast-paced environment. Circulator for eye surgery in all subspecialties: Oculoplastic, Retina, Glaucoma, Cornea, Strabismus, Oncology.
Required Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of nursing experience required 
  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN preferred to internal candidates. 
  • At least 2 years of experience in surgical setting which includes the specialty of Ophthalmology
  • CNOR
Additional Details

Length of Orientation - Experienced Nurse

  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
