What is an eye model?

An Eye Model is a professional who is hired specifically for close-up photography or videography of their eyes. They are often used in advertisements for beauty products, eyewear, contact lenses, or medical campaigns. Eye Models must have well-groomed, expressive eyes and may work with photographers, makeup artists, and brands to capture high-quality images. The role requires patience, the ability to remain still for long periods, and comfort with bright lighting and close-up shots.

What is a typical workday like for an eye model?

A typical workday for an Eye Model involves arriving at a studio or location shoot, collaborating with makeup artists and photographers to prepare your eyes for close-up photography or videography, and spending several hours posing under different lighting and camera setups. You may be asked to showcase different eye expressions, wear contact lenses, or feature various eye makeup products. Attention to detail and comfort with repetitive poses are important since multiple takes are common to achieve the perfect shot. Eye models often work with creative teams, including stylists and art directors, to bring specific campaign visions to life. Flexibility in schedule and professionalism during long shoots are key to succeeding in this dynamic role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an eye model, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Eye Model, you need naturally striking, healthy-looking eyes, well-groomed eyebrows, and symmetrical facial features, often supported by a modeling portfolio. Familiarity with studio lighting, makeup application specific to eye shoots, and experience working with professional photographers are highly valued. Strong interpersonal skills, patience during long photoshoots, and the ability to follow direction precisely help models stand out. These attributes are critical for ensuring that the model consistently delivers high-quality, marketable images for advertising, cosmetic campaigns, and artistic projects.

How do you become an eye model?

To become an eye model, individuals typically need to have clear, healthy eyes and good vision. Some roles may require modeling agencies or companies to conduct auditions or review portfolios, and experience with makeup or contact lenses can be beneficial. Maintaining eye health and following any specific guidelines provided by the agency or client are important steps in the process.

How much does an eye model make?

An eye model typically earns between $10 and $20 per hour, depending on experience, location, and the complexity of the modeling. Rates can vary for freelance or agency-represented models, and some may receive additional compensation for specific projects or educational purposes.

Earn up to $200,000 | Full-Scope Medical Optometry | Surgical Co-Management | North King County/South Snohomish, WA

Edmonds Eye is a well-established, multi-location ophthalmology group delivering advanced medical and surgical eye care across the Pacific Northwest. We're known for clinical excellence, fellowship-trained surgeons, and a genuinely collaborative MD/OD culture, and we're looking for an Optometrist ready to practice at the top of their license.

  • Work alongside subspecialty-trained ophthalmologists who value your expertise and treat you as a true clinical partner
  • Modern clinics, advanced diagnostics, the technology and tools to practice confidently
  • Excellent support staff so your time goes to patients, not paperwork
  • Ongoing CE, mentorship, and training to keep sharpening your skills
  • A life you'll love outside the clinic, one of Washington's most scenic and desirable regions, with easy access to Seattle, the Puget Sound, and the mountains

What You'll Do

  • Perform comprehensive medical eye exams
  • Provide pre- and post-operative cataract and glaucoma care
  • Co-manage patients within a true collaborative MD/OD model
  • Educate patients on diagnoses and treatment plans, building trust and long-term relationships
  • Document efficiently within our EMR
  • Participate in ongoing CE and ย professional development

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive base salary plus production incentives
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Company-paid life insurance
  • Generous PTO and paid holidays
  • A supported path for long-term professional growth
