Job description

SUMMARY

Operates plastic extrusion machines such as cut-off saws, pullers, pneumatic operated belling equipment, extruders, dies and various pipe testing equipment.  Uses various hand tools, micrometers, OD tapes, banders, and wood saws in the manufacturing of rigid PVC pipe.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1.   Committed to providing our customers with quality products and to the continuous improvement of our capability to do so.

  2.  Maintain operation of multiple lines, including packaging end product for shipment.

  1. Learn and maintain all documentation required for production reporting.
  1.  Prepare packaging materials.
  2.  Visually inspect product for quality control purposes.
  3.  Measure and record pipe dimensions as directed.
  4.  Make adjustments on Bellers and printing equipment as needed.
  5.  Monitor and make adjustments to saw, puller and vacuum tank as needed.
  6.  Move bundled pipe from work area, weigh and document completed bundles (scrap & good product).
  7.  Assist in production line start-up activities and changeovers.
  8.  Observe all operational and safety procedures.
  9.  Cut and band scrap as directed.
  10.  Relieve and assist other operators as needed.
  11.  Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
  12.  Report any equipment malfunctions, product defects or unsafe conditions immediately.
  13.  Operate a forklift truck safely and inspect fork trucks as instructed.
  14.  Attend required training sessions and wear the required safety equipment such as hearing protection, safety glasses and other safety equipment that might be required for certain tasks.
  15.  Work with a team and with others.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Demonstration of requisite skills, satisfactory attendance, and safety record.   

COMPUTER SKILLS

Basic computer skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Have ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Have ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
