About Science & Arts Academy

Science & Arts Academy (SAA) is an independent JK-8 school designed specifically for gifted learners. Our students are curious, creative, and eager to be challenged. They thrive in an environment that values deep learning, artistic expression, intellectual risk-taking, and meaningful relationships.

At SAA, we believe the arts are an essential part of a gifted education. Music provides students with opportunities to develop discipline, creativity, collaboration, and self-expression while pursuing excellence in a supportive community.

Position Overview

Science & Arts Academy is seeking an experienced Orchestra and Strings educator to join our music program. This position plays a central role in developing and leading our orchestral program, introducing beginning string students to instrumental music and helping more advanced musicians grow through ensemble performance.

The successful candidate will bring expertise in string instruction and orchestra direction, along with the ability to inspire students at varying levels of musical development. While the position includes some general music and ensemble responsibilities, we are specifically seeking a teacher with demonstrated experience teaching strings and leading orchestral ensembles.

Working closely with the Music Team, this teacher will help students build technical skill, artistic confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach beginning string orchestra to 4th grade students through a combination of sectional and full ensemble instruction.
  • Lead and support orchestra rehearsals and sectionals for students in grades 5-8.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band programming.
  • Prepare students for concerts, festivals, contests, and other public performances.
  • Teach one to two sections of general music as assigned.
  • Help shape the continued growth and excellence of SAAs instrumental music program.
  • Participate fully in the life of the school and contribute to the broader student experience.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Music Education or related field required; Masters degree preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching strings and directing school orchestra programs.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more orchestral string instruments.
  • Experience teaching beginning string students and developing technique, musicianship, and ensemble skills.
  • Illinois teaching certification preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with gifted, advanced, or highly motivated students is preferred.

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Have successfully directed elementary or middle school orchestras.
  • Are passionate about string pedagogy and ensemble development.
  • Can build strong relationships with students while maintaining high expectations.
  • Bring energy, creativity, and musical excellence to the classroom.
  • Thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working closely with fellow music educators.

Why Join SAA

SAA offers a unique opportunity to work with bright, motivated students who genuinely love learning. Our music program is highly valued by students, families, and faculty, and instrumental music plays an important role in school life.

If you are an orchestra educator who enjoys helping young musicians discover their potential while building a culture of excellence and joy, we would love to hear from you.
