Job description

Job Title: Senior Ocean Freight Coordinator.
Job Summary:

Coordinate shipments from various domestic and foreign Suppliers. Must be located in Miami area.ย  This is not a remote job.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Excellent hands-on working knowledge of US Domestic freight transportation via truck, rail, rail piggyback, airfreight, and ocean freight.
  • Hands-on experience coordinating ocean freight shipments.
  • Working knowledge of cross-dock, freight consolidation, container loading and port dray operations.
  • Experience in ocean freight documentation, filing electronic AES Entries.
  • Pricing Analysis and negotiation skills- ability to perform freight cost analysis, negotiate rates, read ocean rates, harmonized classifications, and complete bills of ladings.
  • Knowledge of handling time and temperature sensitive shipments.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • Review purchase orders in the system to determine weekly scheduling of activity and movement of purchase orders. (Experience in handling perishable goods is important.)
  • Booking ocean freight with carriers.
  • Follow established guidelines and process inbound shipments via cross-dock faculties.
  • Determine shipment origin points and set up pickup plans.
  • Excellent follow-up daily, weekly, and monthly pending shipments and meet the required purchase order service levels and inventory balances.
  • Communicate shipment information and transit issues internally and externally with buyers, product suppliers and transportation suppliers.
  • Scheduling of shipments with Suppliers, truckers, warehouses, brokers, ship companies and buyers.
  • Update Systems with shipment data and produce all required documents for AES, US Customs, Shipping Companies etc.

Education and Experience:
  • Technical training in Traffic/Transportation, US Customs, or related field is a PLUS.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of hands-on experience in shipping.
  • Five (5) years of Import & Export freight and documentation.
  • Excellent computer skills, use of shipping software, Excel, Word and Data Entry Systems.

Language Skills:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. (Prefer bilingual English & Spanish)
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret transportation and purchase documents.
  • Ability to clearly express yourself both verbally and in writing.ย 

Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts with percentages, area and volumes.

Leadership and reasoning skills:
  • Ability to resolve practical operational problems and deal with a variety of variables and situations that require the cooperation of many individuals to get the work completed on time within budget.
