What is an Explore Intern?

Explore Interns typically refer to students participating in Microsoft’s Explore Internship program, which is designed for first- or second-year college students interested in technology careers. This unique program provides exposure to software engineering and product management through hands-on projects, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. It's aimed at those who are early in their academic journey and want to explore different roles within the tech industry. Explore Interns work in teams, develop technical and soft skills, and gain experience that helps guide future career decisions.

What types of projects and mentorship can I expect as an Explore Intern?

As an Explore Intern, you’ll typically work on real-world projects that span software development and testing, often in small teams that encourage learning and collaboration. You’ll be paired with experienced mentors who guide you through technical challenges, provide feedback, and help you navigate the workplace. The internship is structured to give you exposure to various aspects of the engineering process, including coding, debugging, and participating in team meetings. This hands-on experience is designed to help you build foundational skills and explore potential career paths in technology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Explore Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Explore Intern, you need a solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and typically be enrolled in a relevant degree program. Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, Java, or Python, and experience using version control systems like Git are commonly expected. Strong communication, teamwork, and a willingness to learn are important soft skills that set candidates apart. These qualifications and skills are crucial for contributing effectively to projects, collaborating with others, and making the most of the internship experience.

Job description

We're looking for a Systems Engineering Intern to work directly on the development of advanced radar and sensor systems across multiple platforms, including drones and ground vehicles. This highly hands-on role spans embedded software, hardware prototyping, and mechanical design/build. You'll help turn concepts into field-ready radar systems, from low-level code and electronics integration through physical assembly, lab bring-up, and testing.
What you'll work on:
  • Embedded coding for sensor, control, and data acquisition systems
  • Hardware prototyping, wiring, bring-up, and integration
  • Collect, analyze, and distribute data to various engineering teams
  • Mechanical design, fabrication, assembly, and system packaging
  • Debugging across software, electronics, and physical hardware
  • Supporting drone and sensing platform development from concept to test

This is a great role for someone who wants broad exposure to real-world systems engineering and enjoys building things that live at the intersection of software, hardware, and mechanical design. SoloPulse Corp is a dual-use radar company committed to the relentless exploration of the frontiers of radar sensing technology. Through the utilization of novel advanced wave theory algorithms, underpinned by the principles of special relativity, SoloPulse can achieve state of the art resolution and latency metrics. Located in Peachtree Corners, GA, SoloPulse stands as a venture-backed startup, diligently cultivating strategic collaborations to proactively address critical safety imperatives and emerging autonomy needs across both civilian and military domains. Our distinguished team encompasses accomplished engineers, seasoned advisors, and experienced startup veterans, collectively driven by an overarching mission to change the way the world sees.
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
