Job description

Overview

EFI Global is a full‑service engineering, fire investigation, environmental, health and safety, and specialty consulting firm. With more than 700 professional engineers, fire investigators, architects and scientists, the company offers expertise in engineering failure analysis, origin‑and‑cause investigations, environmental consulting, laboratory testing and specialty consulting worldwide.

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced, P.E. licensed Electrical Engineer for a remote role that may require local or regional travel. The ideal candidate will investigate power system failures, fire and explosion losses, electrical equipment and product failures, lightning and surge damage, and construction defects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide power system analysis and determine origins and causes of fire and explosion losses.
  • Investigate failures of electronic equipment, appliances, consumer products, and construction defects.
  • Analyze lightning strike damage, electrical shock/electrocution causes, and power surge damage.
  • Inspect loss scenes at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
  • Research and document failure modes, products, installations, and maintenance related findings in laboratory settings.
  • Collaborate with experts to produce detailed reports on origins and causes of losses and damages.
  • Serve as an expert witness in court and depositions.
  • Document and maintain billable hours on a time‑and‑expense basis.
  • Mentor and provide leadership to newer colleagues.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the resident state; multi‑state licensing or active NCEES record preferred.
  • Strong background in power system analysis, codes and standards, equipment and system failures, fire origin and cause, lightning and surge damage analysis, product liability, and construction defects.
  • Experience in expert witness testimony is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and customer‑service skills.

Work Environment
  • Physical: able to stand, walk, kneel, squat, bend, lift up to 50lbs, pull or push up to 100lbs, and drive up to 4hours per day.

  • Mental: clear conceptual thinking, excellent judgment, ability to handle stress and multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Auditory/Visual: adequate hearing, vision, and verbal communication.
