Job Summary:

The Outdoor Studies Department at RRCC is seeking a Outdoor Studies Student Worker to who will play a key role in supporting the behind-the-scenes planning and safety management for the Outdoor Education (OUT) and Park Ranger (PRA) programs. This position is ideal for students interested in expedition logistics, risk management, and the administrative side of outdoor programming. The role involves coordinating essential permits, safety documents, and logistics equipment that make outdoor academic experiences possible.
This position reports to the Faculty Chair. The work schedule for this position may vary, ,depending on department need and budget, at the Lakewood campus location. May require hours outside of normal work schedule.
This is a work-study position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while class is in session an RRCC student, depending on class schedule, need, and budget availability. Student employees are enrolled and contribute to a TIAA-CREF account when enrolled in less than six credits.

Duties & Responsibilities:

This position offers hands-on experience in the operational side of outdoor education, providing a behind-the-scenes look at how academic programs and field-based courses are planned and executed. Students will gain practical skills in permitting, risk management, and expedition planning, while also developing professional competencies in communication, coordination, and equipment management. By collaborating with faculty, peers, and industry partners, students will deepen their understanding of the outdoor education field, expand their professional network, and enhance their readiness for careers in parks, recreation, and adventure-based education.

Required Qualifications:

For work study employment:
1. Must be an RRCC student and have been granted a work study award for the semester the student is seeking employment and maintain eligibility.
2. Must be enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours) and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress for all credit hours.
For student hourly employment:
1. Must be an RRCC student and enrolled in at least half-time (6 credit hours).
Other Required Qualifications
1. Must have a commitment to equity and quality customer service and the ability to interact and communicate effectively in oral and written form with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

3. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook PowerPoint) and have advanced computer skills and experience with virtual meeting platforms (Zoom/Webex etc.).
4. Must be reliable, punctual and have a good work ethic.
5. Must be a self-starter with time-management skills and a strong attention to detail.
6. Ability to work from campus (Lakewood campus location) and be eligible for student employment.
7. Interest and experience with outdoor activities, ability to multi-task, ability to work 15-20 hours per week, professional minded, hard-working, and detail oriented.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
• Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• This position operates in both an office environment, and an outdoor classroom environment. It will constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
• The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.

Advertised Hourly Pay
The compensation for this position is $19.37 to $19.89 hourly, commensurate with education and experience. This is a part-time, FLSA non-exempt position. This position may work up to 20 hours each week while an RRCC student, depending on need and budget availability. This position has been exempted from the State Classified System.

Benefits
Medical insurance is offered to instructors and other variable hour employees who have worked, on average, at least 30 hours per week in a 12-month period. RRCC/CCCS uses an initial 12-month measurement period to determine medical benefit eligibility, and a 12-month standard measurement period. Student employees are limited to working no more than 20 hours a week, and non-classified hourly and temporary staff are limited to 28 hours in a workweek, depending on budget and need. Sick leave is granted in accordance with SB20-205, Sick Leave for Employees, accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.
Instructors and non-student hourly are required to contribute to Colorado PERA at a fixed percentage of their salary and do not contribute to Social Security. RRCC/CCCS student employees are not eligible to participate in PERA. RRCC/CCCS offers three tax-deferred investment plans, including 401(k), 403(b) and 457. Employee assistance services such as counseling, professional coaching, financial planning, and more, are available to you and members of your household at no cost through the Colorado State Employee Assistance Program (C-SEAP).
