What is expedited freight?

Expedited freight refers to a shipping service designed to move goods faster than standard delivery times. This service is typically used when shipments are time-sensitive or need to meet strict deadlines. Expedited freight often involves dedicated vehicles, fewer stops, and prioritized handling to ensure quick delivery. It's commonly used in industries where downtime can be costly or when critical parts and products are needed urgently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in expedited freight?

To thrive in Expedited Freight, you need strong logistics knowledge, attention to detail, and typically a high school diploma or equivalent, with experience in freight or transportation preferred. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), GPS tracking, and regulatory compliance tools is essential. Outstanding organizational skills, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help you manage urgent shipments and coordinate with drivers and clients. These skills ensure timely and accurate delivery of high-priority shipments, which is critical in a fast-paced and time-sensitive industry.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in expedited freight, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in expedited freight often face challenges such as tight delivery windows, unpredictable traffic or weather conditions, and the need for rapid coordination between shippers, drivers, and customers. Managing these challenges requires strong organizational skills, real-time communication, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. Utilizing advanced logistics software and maintaining close relationships with carriers can help streamline operations and ensure that urgent shipments are delivered on time.

Key responsibilities

  • Prospect and develop a book of freight shippers in known markets.

  • Manage accounts end to end by quoting, booking, and maintaining relationships.

  • Cover loads using the carrier network or support from the operations desk.

Job description

We're hiring: Independent Freight Agent (1099 ยท Fully Remote ยท Commission)

Perpetual Enterprise, LLC ยท Remote (U.S., all 48 states) ยท Contract

Most freight brokerages hand you a phone and a quota. We hand you our authority, our carrier network, and a back office โ€” then let you build a book that's yours to keep.

Perpetual Enterprise is a licensed, bonded nationwide brokerage (MC# 1027408) built around heavy haul, oversize, flatbed, hot shot, and expedited freight โ€” the high-margin lanes most generalist brokers won't touch. We're looking for independent agents who know how equipment dealers, rental houses, and contractors actually move freight.

The role

You build and own your own book โ€” prospecting shippers, quoting, booking, and keeping accounts loyal. Cover your own freight when you want to. When you don't, our 24/7 operations desk covers it for you at no cost to your commission.

What you'd do

โ†’ Prospect and develop your own book in the markets you know

โ†’ Manage accounts end to end: quoting, booking, and relationships

โ†’ Cover your own loads from our vetted carrier network, or get support from the desk โ€” same commission either way

โ†’ Optionally cover freight for the company or other agents for extra commission

The comp โ€” two ways to earn, and they stack

โ†’ 15% of Net Margin on every load you originate

โ†’ Plus 10% of Net Margin on any load you cover that you didn't originate

โ†’ No draws, no caps, no tiers to climb. Paid on collected loads.

โ†’ The book you build is yours โ€” we don't claw back accounts you develop

What we provide

โ†’ Active FMCSA broker authority (MC# 1027408) โ€” you operate under our license

โ†’ Surety bond and broker liability coverage

โ†’ A vetted, insured carrier network across all 48 states

โ†’ A 24/7 ops desk that will help you cover loads

โ†’ Back office for invoicing, collections, and carrier payments

โ†’ Quoting tools, including heavy-haul and permit pricing

โ†’ Direct onboarding and training until you're running clean

Who I'm looking for

Someone with a background in heavy equipment rental, contractor logistics, freight brokerage, or transportation sales. An existing book is a huge plus.

A few things to know

This is a 1099 independent contractor role, not a W-2 position. The agreement runs business-to-business, so you'll need an LLC or corporation (we'll walk you through setting one up if you don't have one yet). You set your own schedule and methods, handle your own taxes, and are free to run other non-conflicting business.
