Job description

General Summary of Duties:ย 

YoungArts is seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized Exhibition Assistant, Contractor to support the Artistic Programs team, planning, production, and installation of the 2026 Miami Art Week (MAW) Studio installation and the 2027ย Nationalย YoungArts Week (YAW) Exhibition. This role works closely with the Associate, Lifetime Support for Artists, curators, and internal teams to ensure these exhibitions are managed, handled, prepared, installed, and deinstalled on schedule and to a professional standard. ย ย 

This is a hybrid contractor role based in Miami, FL. The Exhibition Assistant must be available forย monthlyย in-person meetings, site visits, and hands-on coordination at the YoungArts Campus Gallery, and beย availableย to workย concentrated hours during install periods (late November 2026โ€“early January 2027).ย 

Direct Reporting:ย 

This role directly reports to the Senior Director, Lifetime Support for Artists.ย 

Essential and Other Responsibilitiesย (perform other duties as assigned):ย 

Exhibition Organization Supportย 

  • Assist the Associate, Lifetime Support for Artists throughout theย selectionย and installation processย ย 

  • Support in organizing artwork files and support the finalization of artwork selectionsย ย 

  • Assistย in managing shippingย logisticsย for incoming artwork, including tracking, receiving, and organizing shipping receiptsย ย 

  • Support in the creation, printing, and placement of exhibition labelsย ย 

Installation & Onsite Supportย ย 

  • Assistย inย maintainingย the exhibitionsโ€™ production schedulesย ย 

  • Support Miami Art Weekย (MAW)ย installation install (approximately lateย November 2026)ย ย 

  • Support and help oversee exhibitionย Nationalย YoungArts Week install (approximately lateย December 2026ย โ€“ย early January 2027) ย ย 

  • Support the unpacking and handling of exhibition materialsย ย 

  • Assistย with onsiteย logisticsย for vinyl installation, label placement, and final walkthrough preparationย ย 

  • Attend and support curator walk throughsย (December)ย and the exhibition opening event forย Nationalย YoungArts Weekย (Januaryย 10, 2027)ย 

Safetyย Responsibilities:ย 

Adhere toย allย safety and security policies of theย organizationย including thoseย pertaining toย physical safety and practices. Report any potential or actual violations to security and HR asย appropriate.ย 

Qualifications andย Experienceย Requirements:ย

  • Prior experience in exhibition management, museum/gallery operations, and/or art handling isย requiredย ย 

  • Experience supporting curators or artistic teams through a production processย ย 

  • Working knowledge of Photoshop, Miro, or similar layout/mockup tools is required/preferredย ย 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skillsย ย 

  • Ability to lift/move artwork and materialsย as heavy as 50 lbs.ย as neededย 

  • Evidence of strong leadership skills, including decisiveness, emotional intelligence, prioritization, negotiation, and equanimity in a fast-paced environment.ย ย ย ย 

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.ย ย ย ย 

  • Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours for programs and events.ย ย ย 

Education and/or Credentialing Requirements:ย 

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree or the equivalent in education and experienceย ย ย 

  • 2-3ย years of progressive experience managing high-performing teams and evidence of responsibility growth in the arts and culture fieldย ย ย 

  • Experience beyond requirement will be considered in lieu of education requirementย ย ย 

Working conditions, typicalย physical/mentalย demands:ย ย 

YoungArts physical campus and headquarters are inย Miami,ย FL. Work is performed in a hybrid (virtual and in-site) setting.ย Typical operations take place in an office environment and/or in an event/venue setting.ย 

Generalย meetingย hoursย for thisย contractorย roleย will beย betweenย 9:00 amโ€“5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The nature ofย theย work will sometimes require an adjustment to this schedule, including evenings and/orย weekends.ย Contractorย will be advised in advance shouldย theย work schedule be adjusted.ย 

Anticipated installation schedule includes:ย 

  • November: standing exhibition meetings and 1-2 installation days TBDย 

  • December: standing exhibition meetings and 3-4 installation days TBDย 

  • January: standing exhibition meetings and 3-4 installation days TBDย 

Last day of contract work: January 12, 2027ย 

Compensation:ย 

Total contract compensation: $3,000ย (paid in two sums, $1,500 December 15,ย 2026ย andย $1,500ย January 30, 2027)ย
