Job description

The City of Indianola (pop. 16,069) is a growing community with a historic downtown, located approximately 15 minutes south of Des Moines. It is a safe community with Midwestern values, friendly people and excellent schools. Indianola, which is home to Simpson College, the world-renowned Des Moines Metro Opera and the National Balloon Museum and U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame, is known for its excellent access to outdoor activities, a nice trail system, five major parks and two golf courses. The community welcomes thousands of visitors annually who come to Indianola to enjoy major events such as the National Balloon Classic, the Warren County Fair and other events.
This position is responsible for a number of tasks, including, but not limited to:
  • Design, plan, prepare and instruct assigned group exercise classes.
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive class environment.
  • Assume a leadership role for members, demonstrating professionalism and group exercise expertise.
  • Encourage and support members as they strive to attain their personal fitness and wellness goals.

Minimum requirements include:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Previous experience, work experience, preferable in leading or instructing others.
  • Current Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or equivalent - prior to starting.
  • Must undergo up to 10 hours of staff training which includes:
    a. Instructor Shadowing
    b. Skill development
    c. Creating a workout plan
    d. Team teaching
    e. Individual teaching
    f. Demonstration of skill competencies

Starting salary is $10.00/hour. This is a part-time position with a schedule that could require work during the workday, at night or on the weekends. This is a non-union classified position.
