Job Summary:
The Inpatient Cardiac Diagnostic Exercise Physiologist reports directly to the department manager, in conjunction with Subject Matter Experts. Working in a hospital department, it is the responsibility of the Exercise Physiologist to administer and conduct a wide variety of exercise and pharmacologic cardiovascular stress testing for the diagnosis of preventative and complex cardiac and/or pulmonary diseases. Further responsibilities include and are not limited to: Review and abstraction of patient medical records, administration and interpretation of cardiopulmonary exercise testing, Static and dynamic EKG monitoring and interpretation (12 lead EKG rhythm strips), Rest and exercise blood pressure monitoring, Equipment maintenance and calibration.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
__Cardiac Exercise Stress Testing__
a) Performs exercise stress testing, walking nuclear stress tests, pharmacological nuclear stress
tests, and stress echocardiograms
b) Performs pre-procedure verification process
c) Monitors and interprets continuous 12-lead EKG while patients exercise or are given a pharmacological agent for stress testing
d) Preps patients for exercise stress testing
e) Communicates findings and status of the patients with the nurses and the doctors
f) Monitors patients blood pressures in response to stress testing
g) Uses independent judgment to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings
h) Accurately enters required information into structured report
i) Stocks rooms at the end of each day in preparation for the next days schedule
__Quality and Patient Care__
a) Assists in departmental performance improvement initiatives
b) Address problems with patient care, as they arise, and works to appropriately resolve
c) Performs basic patient care tasks, as needed
d) Ensures the equipment is in working order. Performs routine cleaning, preventative maintenance, and reports any equipment malfunctions to Supervisor or Department Manager
Performs other duties as assigned
Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
  • Bachelors Exercise Science or Masters Exercise Science-Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ARC-ALS - Amer Red Cross Advanced Life Support or ACLS-I - ACLS - Instructor or ACLS-P - ACLS-Provisional (180 Days) within 180 Days
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):
Required Minimum Experience:
Experience in cardiac stress testing, (populations including cardiac patients, geriatric, and diabetics). Required
Must possess knowledge of 12-lead EKGs, coronary artery disease, blood pressure, glucose monitoring, and treatment options. Required
Must have a thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart. Required
Minimum 4 years experience in cardiac testing (2 years credit if Master's Degree) Required
Required Minimum Skills:
Knowledge of coronary heart disease, cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, electrocardiography, 12-lead electrocardiograms, and cardiac stress testing. High
