Job description

Responsibilities

SUMMARY STATEMENT & PURPOSE

The Wellness & Fitness Specialist is responsible for planning and facilitating therapeutic fitness and wellness groups for the inpatient population. This includes developing and leading exercise-based sessions, supporting patient engagement, and promoting physical health as part of the holistic treatment plan. The Wellness & Fitness Specialist will also assist with other therapeutic groups as needed to support overall patient functioning. Working under the supervision of the Recreation Therapist, this role contributes to treatment planning and implements activity-based interventions aligned with each patient’s goals. The specialist provides ongoing patient interaction, observation, and role modeling as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field.
  • Ability to plan and lead group fitness or movement-based activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with patients experiencing behavioral health conditions.
  • Must obtain CPR, First Aid Certification, Handle With Care, Verbal De-Escalation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience working in mental health or behavioral health settings.
    • Personal Trainer Certification (NASM, ACE, ISSA, or similar).
    • Experience modifying activities for diverse physical abilities.
