Job Description Summary:
The Exercise Specialist has the responsibility of assessing each member of the fitness center, developing, implementing, and supervising personalized exercise prescriptions and lifestyle programs with, but not limited to, individuals with different fitness levels, medical concerns, and/ or different age populations in order to maximize the safety of each user. The exercise specialist is ultimately responsible for marketing his/ her personal training services and building and retaining his/ her personal training clientele. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
Responsibilities
  • Assess an individual's lifestyle habits, medical history, present level of fitness and goals before designing and implementing an exercise prescription for that individual.
  • Design an individualized program for each client he/she works with including development of clinical outcomes and follow-up with outcomes and goal obtainment.
  • Designs programs to increase strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and overall health and improve quality of life for the general population, including those with chronic health issues and those referred by healthcare providers.
  • Directs members in a well rounded program that may include group fitness and other activities within the wellness center

  • Promotes the facility's personal training and related fitness services to users and guests including transition of clinical integration members into wellness center members.
  • Greets all members and guests when they enter and leave the fitness area with a consistently positive attitude and friendly greeting and works to ensure that he/she learns each individual's name.
  • Works with other healthcare professionals including but not limited to physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses to provide appropriate exercise prescriptions.
  • Spends time on the fitness floor either training members with one-on-one training, small group training or manning the fitness floor, continuously checking in with members, Responsible for floor coverage which includes, but not limited to, new member orientation, exercise prescription, fitness testing, fitness floor monitoring to ensure all members are safely performing exercises, maintenance of equipment, cleaning, locker room checks Assists in facilitating personal contact between users when they are on the exercise floor and strives to connect members with other members.
  • Willingly steps in and assists with other facility service responsibilities, including but not limited to teaching group fitness classes, manning the front desk, retention efforts, providing tours, and assisting in the child care area as needed to ensure that the facility meets MFA and WTH commitments to excellence.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

EDUCATION:
  • 4 year degree in an exercise science or health-related field required

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
  • Currently certified through ACSM, NSCA, NATA, ACE or another certifying body that is accredited through the NCCA
  • CPR/ AED

EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in exercise prescription
  • One year of personal training or fitness instruction preferred
